Does makemkv call home on each invocation?

Post by MakOwner »

Or just an unfortunate choice of error code?

Tried to start it up on my Mint desktop today and I got a popup with this message: "NO_ANSWER_FROM_MAKEMKVCON"
If I start it from the cli, I also see it failing to open
/usr/bin/makemkvcon: error while loading shared libraries: libcrypto.so.1.1

I'm still on a 1.16 version so I'm going to try updating to the latest 1.17.

If your copy is unregistered, it will "call home" to check that. Registered copies do not check as often, but they do check for newer versions.

You can disable checking in the configuration, locking out the updated version check and looking for new keys when you rip something your version doesn't know about yet.

None of these errors indicate network access.
