LG WH14NS40 falls on it's face on UHDs

Post by Podagrower »

I am a noob, I tried hunting down the answer so I apologize if I missed it somewhere in the flood of information that is available here.

I decided to expand my movie collection and purchased a lot of used DVDs on the bay. Three of them are 4K UHD (Divergent, Allegent, Insurgent). I decided to upgrade to a better optical drive and see if I could rip these. After careful consideration I picked up a LG WH14NS40 and reflashed it to WH16NS60 1.02 MK using Marty's SDF and firmware.

It tears thru regular DVDs great, zero issues. But the UHD discs just cause it to choke. MakeMKV will open them, but when I try to make the actual MKV, the speed drops to .3X and the file fails after a couple of minutes or it will make a file and then say there is a hash check error.

Any thoughts before I use these UHDs as reflectors to scare birds from the garden?

Allow internet access to Makemkv and clean the discs.

Update. Pioneer BDR-212UBK is the shizzle. No fuss, no flash, no muss, no mess.
