USS Indianapolis - Retail

Post by Cornstick » Thu Jan 19, 2017 11:52 pm

Name: USS Indianapolis (English)
Source file name: 00225.mpls
Duration: 2:10:31
Chapters count: 16
Size: 32.4 GB
Segment count: 21
Segment map: 518,507,506,505,515,501,520,514,519,504,502,511,503,513,512,510,508,517,500,516,509
File name: USS_Indianapolis_t82.mkv

It took me several tries to find the correct playlist.... I had given up when I noticed rapidly scrolling though the Process Monitor log something different about mpls 00225. It had nothing under the "Detail" column. All the rest of the bogus mpls files had a bunch of stuff written in the "Detail." So that one difference made me give it a try. Sure enough, it's the correct one. I watched the entire moved side by side.

What tools are you using to analyze DVDs?

Thanks! Verified that selection 00225.mpls / USS_Indianapolis_t82.mkv works compared to the Blu-ray. Wrote a script to extract a photo every 5 minutes from the original and the ripped mkv file, compared and all equivalent.

I can confirm 100% the Netflix version you described is wrong.

I have the Netflix version. I selected 00091.mpls with the file name of "USS Indianapolis_t34.mkv" and the exact same Segment map lineup you listed above. But I confirmed there are multiple spots of this Segment map lineup that do NOT lineup correctly with the Blu-ray disc.

For example, just watch between 40 minutes to 41 minutes and you see multiple spots that are not aligned properly. If you watch the Blu-ray and the MKV file simultaneously you easily see this.

So, the question now is, "What is the correct Segment Map for the Netflix version?"

I looked at the link you listed above. I don't understand why you are saying, "Makes life easy." This didn't make anything easier.

INFORMATION for "Netflix" Blu-ray

The "Netflix" version is virtually identical to the "Retail" version.

The "Segment Map" of the "Netflix" version is 100% identical to the "Retail" version.

The only difference is that according to the post above, the "Retail" version is titled "t82." The "Netflix" version is "t83."

I simultaneously watched the Blu-ray and t83 with the Segment Map listed below. The t83 version with the Segment Map listed below is correct with every scene matching up correctly:

Name: USS Indianapolis (English)
Source file name: 00225.mpls
Duration: 2:10:31
Chapters count: 16
Size: 32.4 GB
Segment count: 21
Segment map: 518,507,506,505,515,501,520,514,519,504,502,511,503,513,512,510,508,517,500,516,509
File name: USS_Indianapolis_t83.mkv

File name: USS_Indianapolis_t83.mkv
The appended numbers (e.g. t83 or t82) are just numbers made up by MakeMKV to make every title it encounters on a disc unique. There's no guarantee that it would append the same numbers on a different system. A better identifier is the Segment map and/or the Source file name (e.g. 00225.mpls).

The Netflix version that I saw as t83 had the "Source file name" of 00225.mpls. The Segment map was also identical 518,507,506,505,515,501,520,514,519,504,502,511,503,513,512,510,508,517,500,516,509.

Thank you for explaining that.

It allows you to figure out the correct order in a few minutes. If you're not willing to put in the work, pay for something like anydvd that does the work for you.
