Hello,
in my old drives I found a Pioneer BDR-S09XLT which I had purchased in 2016. After reading this I had hopes it could be used for reading UHD discs.
So I hooked it up through a spare USB-adapter and ran MakeMKV. The drive is detected but MakeMKV doesn't display any LibreDrive Information - the whole section is just missing - the following is all that is displayed:
Code: Select all
Drive Information
OS device name: R:
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-S09
Revision: 1.51
Serial number: redacted
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 53
No disc inserted
On other drives I usually get the LibreDrive information even through the drive clearly doesn't support it, e.g. on a LG BD-RE GGW-H20L i get:
Code: Select all
LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, might be supported in future, but not likely soon
Drive platform: RS1013
Firmware version: YL07-00
Is there anything that can be done for the BDR-S09?

I have seen the post that said copy the data for a file sdf.bin. Should this file already exist and I add to it or do I need to create it and where would it go? If someone could help clear this up for me please.
Thank you
Darren.

Just my two cents:
The Pioneer just seem to have Superior reading/ ripping capabilities compared to the LG at least. I had a disc that neither the internal nor external LG drives could read but the pioneer ripped it just fine

My Pioneer BDR-XS07 does not seem to like UHD disc(s). I have only tried one disc (Puss in Boots-The Last Wish) as all my others are in storage, a long way away. Blu-Ray works fine.
Any advice would be appreciated:
"That should work"

Yep, same here. Just got a Pioneer BDR-XS07S and spits out the Knives Out 4k disc whenever I put it in. Regular Blurays work.

Probably currently watching Baby Driver on bluray, because all the streaming versions suck.

The black BDR-XS07UHD can handle 4K UHD without issue (I don’t recall my firmware version), though sounds like you’ve got the silver BDR-XS07S that isn’t expected to support 4K UHD.
TBD if firmware mods can eventually “fix” that but at this point I think people are still experimenting.

You don't, unless a flashing tool for Pioneer drives is ever created and released publicly.
Even if that happens, your drive may possibly be too old anyway, since it has firmware from 2014 on it.
Cheers

Like Marty said - very unlikely since your drive is dated 2014. You will need a newer one.

there is still a lot to learn about crossflashing pioneers i have a pioneer 208 dbk form 2013 and it can read UHD after flashing
only 2 people in the world probably know the full list of drives that its possible on but the gist of it for now is if the drive platform is 8301+ it probably can see UHD when flashed.
but that does not mean it will be problem free some have lower quality picks ups and they wont rip BD100s or even BD66 marty found this out first hand so even if your drive can see a UHD does not mean it is useful for UHD.

Interesting... 209s are capable when crossflashed. This XD05 is quite old.
