Usually it's really, really hard to fix - clean the disk.

I get that error message with every DVD I put in my drive… and then everything works normally. I do NOT get that error with blu-rays or UHDs.

Interesting. Threw a bluray in there and it pushed through the error message. Seems to just be any DVD.

It could be the the DVD laser has died so only BD and UHD disks will work with that drive. Or, is the drive in an external enclosure? I have a drive that when used internally works fine for DVD/BD/UHD but when in an external enclosure DVD will not work.
