Stargate SG-1 Blu-ray Box Set

Post by Radiocomms237 » Wed Mar 01, 2023 1:48 am

I'm working my way through the Blu-ray box set of Stargate SG-1, it was purchased brand new and arrived sealed.

So far I've gotten the first 6 seasons backed-up perfectly but season 7 disc 4 has a corrupt file. I've tried cleaning, polishing, and cleaning again and the disc looks perfect but it always fails at roughly the same offset each time.

Unfortunately I'm unable to find any individual seasons for sale to replace it, and obviously I don't want to purchase another whole box set just for one disc.

Does anyone have SG-1 season 7 on Blu-ray and could get me a copy of '/BDMV/STREAM/00007.m2ts' from disc 4, preferably decrypted but I'll take anything I can get?

The episode is S07E21 - "Lost City" (Part 1)

Disc Information:
Label: Stargate_SG1_BR_S7D4
Timestamp: 2021-01-28 08:15:58
Protection: AACS v75
Data capacity: 38.75 Gb
Disc type: BD-ROM
Number of layers: 2
Channel bit length: 74,5 nm (25.0 GB max. per layer)

Code: Select all

best option is to buy another keep what you know works and just take that 1 disc from the set put your bad disc in the other set and return it
so copy the rest before so you know if you need any other discs.

Yes, finish ripping your whole set so you know what disc(s) you need, then return it and get another set. By now there should be a lot of used sets FS on FleaBay, so there's that option too.

Just finished backing up the entire box set, Seasons 8 & 9 went perfectly, season 10 is an absolute disaster area!

Season 10 disc 1 had exactly the same errors, with the same file, at virtually the same offsets as the previous problem child (see above):

Disc Information:
Label: Stargate_SG1_BR_S10D1
Timestamp: 2021-01-24 16:02:12
Protection: AACS v75
Data capacity: 39.19 Gb
Disc type: BD-ROM
Number of layers: 2
Channel bit length: 74,5 nm (25.0 GB max. per layer)

Code: Select all

Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00007.m2ts' at offset '570753024'
Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00007.m2ts' at offset '573960192'
Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00007.m2ts' at offset '574027776'
Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00007.m2ts' at offset '579465216'
This file is episode S10E04 - "Insiders"

==============================================================

Season 10 disc 4 actually has visible damage around the circumference, it kinda looks like de-lamination and I can't even read the "Content001.cer" file:

Disc Information:
Label: Stargate_SG1_BR_S10D4
Timestamp: 2021-01-24 16:41:36
Protection: AACS v68
Data capacity: 37.8 Gb
Disc type: BD-ROM
Number of layers: 2
Channel bit length: 74,5 nm (25.0 GB max. per layer)

Code: Select all

Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading 'BD-RE PIONEER BD-RW BDR-209D 1.34 QDDL093071WL' at offset '24934088704'
Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading '/AACS/Content001.cer' at offset '0'
Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading 'BD-RE PIONEER BD-RW BDR-209D 1.34 QDDL093071WL' at offset '24935268352'
Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading 'BD-RE PIONEER BD-RW BDR-209D 1.34 QDDL093071WL' at offset '24935270400'
So it seems I can't get anything at all from this disc?

==============================================================

And season 10 disc 5 (the "Bonus Disc") seems to be corrupt within 00012.m2ts:

Disc Information:
Label: Stargate_SG1_BR_BonusDisc
Timestamp: 2021-02-24 18:52:18
Protection: AACS v68
Data capacity: 40.11 Gb
Disc type: BD-ROM
Number of layers: 2
Channel bit length: 74,5 nm (25.0 GB max. per layer)

Code: Select all

Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00012.m2ts' at offset '4239390720'
==============================================================

Unfortunately I had to import this box set from the US to Australia so with the $ conversion rate, taxes and import duties, and a stupendous shipping charge, it cost me an absolute fortune. An exercise I'm not eager to repeat.

And to think that this is why I stopped buying second hand box sets (because one bad disc makes the whole set useless)!

Not sure what to do now, there only seems to be one seller on eBay with this box set at the moment, and if I 'tip my hand' and complain about defective discs it would make it harder to do the old re-order 'n swap discs trick?

I may have to try and contact the distributor?

Late to the party, but I have just acquired this brand new direct from VEI, am having similar difficulties with S9D4, and stumbled across this thread.

When Decrypting:

Optical drive "BD-RE PIONEER BD-RW BDR-XD07U 1.03 BDDL004487WLd" opened in OS access mode.

Using direct disc access mode

Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.

S09E19 ("Crusade") will not rip.

When ripping it I get:

Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:POSITIONING ERROR DETECTED BY READ OF MEDIUM' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00007.m2ts' at offset '3347705856'
Error 'Posix error - Input/output error' occurred while reading '/dev/rdisk7' at offset '3347705856'
Error 'Posix error - Input/output error' occurred while reading '/dev/rdisk7' at offset '3347705856'
etc.

There are some light, but nevertheless visible, scratches on the surface.

Radiocomms237, did you manage to get replacement discs from the distributor?

Otherwise how did you go about resolving your issue, albeit with different discs. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated. Hopefully I don't have any other issues - I am ripping it in backwards order, and so far Bonus + S8-S10 have all ripped successfully save for S09E19.

I literally spent months going back and forth with VEI and eventually contacted a law firm in Toronto because I was getting nowhere with whatever smart-ass I was dealing with at the company (who wouldn't even give me their name despite countless requests).

It was just excuse after excuse, dodging questions (or not replying at all), and generally despicable behavior for anyone in business. I found a number of similar complaints registered with Toronto's Better Business Bureau and contacted them myself, but it seems there was nothing they could do except register another complaint.

The law firm I spoke with basically said it could cost a hundred times the purchase price and even then I still may not get a replacement set, so I eventually (and reluctantly) gave up.

But I sure as hell will NEVER knowingly buy another product of theirs as long as I live!

All that aside, I was thankfully helped by a couple of very generous people who read this thread and went out of their way to send me the individual files that were unreadable from my box set. And I am more than happy to 'pay it forward', as it were.

I'd suggest that you keep going for now to see whether there are any other problem discs (I had four discs give me trouble, one of them had damage to the "Content001.cer" file and wouldn't open at all). Even if you can go through and just backup all the discs for now, you should hopefully see any errors.

Then I'd suggest you try for a replacement set. If you're in North America you may fair better than I did (as I'm in Australia, which was one of VEI's main excuses).

And as a last resort, my internet connection is too slow to upload an entire disk (I guess I could do it but it would literally take me days), but I can certainly send you the 00007.m2ts file from the affected disc.

If you're working from a decrypted backup, you can simply drop the replacement file into the appropriate folder and you should then be able to rip the title as normal.

Stargate SG-1 S9D4 00007.m2ts is uploading to my cloud account now, but it's slow going. It's been running for three hours and it just passed ten percent, so I expect it will be another twenty four hours (+/-) before it's ready.

I'll PM you the URL when it's done.

That sounds scandalous and I'm sorry to hear you had problems. It seems unlikely I will fare any better , though I will see what VEI can do about a replacement. I'm currently working my way through the other series, and hopefully won't have any other problems. Fingers crossed.

In the meantime, I'm incredibly grateful to you for uploading the affected 00007.m2ts file and I will keep an eye out for a PM. I'm not sure if I can actually receive PMs on this site, having recently signed up. If it doesn't work let me know on here and we can find an alternative route.

I'm glad you've already had your issues sorted by others, as I would have been happy to oblige.

Thank you again !

Just got out of bed to check (it's 2am here in Eastern Australia)... Ten and a half hours in and we're at 38% so a little ahead of my ETC (but not by much)!

I really need a better internet connection!

Amazing, thank you! Turns out I received your PM, but I can't respond to it... so once the link comes through I'll confirm receipt on here.

I'd guess that you'll be able to send PMs once you have a few more posts? Either way, we know it works, kinda.

Eighteen hours into the upload and it's currently at 69%... I estimate I'll have the URL to you some time this evening (my time that is, maybe another ten hours)?

I really hope this works! I'll send you a CRC32 & SHA1 hash of both the source and the 7zip'd file along with the download link. Zipping the file saved around 200MB, which equates to roughly an hour of upload time for me.

As it happens, since I last checked the forum, the powers that be have very kindly enabled my PM privileges!

That's great. I've prepped my backup ready to slot the last file in. I'm sure it will all work fine :D

Two seasons to go and no more errors.. things are looking good.
