How do you all watch the MKV remuxes over your home network?

Post by TheMKVMaker »

So today I received a Verbatim 43888 4K UHD drive and have been able to successfully rip plenty of movies - both 1080p and 4k.

The only issue is playback on my 2020 4k UHD QLED from Samsung which does not even register the .Mkv files in the menu... I even tried to convert them to MP4 with VLC and it still didn't register the movie .MP4 file.

Does anybody else have this issue? If so, were you able to fix it at all?

Doesn't plex require plex installed on your NAS or computer which has the movie library?

Have you tried Kodi? Do you know of any other players for the Samsung? Wish VLC player worked...

I use a computer
But most use an Nvidia shield

Plex does require a nas or PC

Kodi is ok it works but not that familiar with I have used it a few times but not at all familiar with Samsung app store I don't care for its waste of time

I use Plex server on a desktop computer which is connected to the LAN, and Plex client on Nvidia Shield Pro in my cinema room. Gigabit ethernet (fixed line) between them. Shield outputs to AV receiver and then onto a projector.

I have also taken the step of recoding all my files to H.265 (HEVC) just to save a little space on my computer hard drive. I'm not running a NAS or anything dedicated, but have a 16 TB drive that is dedicated to media. There is undoubtedly a small loss in quality from the transcoding, but not enough for me personally to care about or notice.

The best thing about Plex is that it will also deal with .mp4 files, MPEG 2, H.264 encoding etc. Everything looks very smart and organised. It really is a personal streaming service for all your media that was previously gathering dust in a cupboard.

Vero 4K+ is what I use.
It can handle 99% of everything I throw at it.
No DV output, but that's still pretty normal for MKV players for now.

I just connect an NTFS formatted hard drive loaded with movie.mkv files to the USB port of my Samsung TV. It plays them without any problem. Use the 1 amp port for a portable drive or use a self powered drive.
