The Northman UHD
Is anyone else having problems ripping the new Northman UHD disk? It seems to be unable to even open the disk. I'm pretty new to all of this. It's saying something about being unable to recognize the key.
Re: The Northman UHD
The UHD FAQ (linked in my sig) may hold the answer.
Re: The Northman UHD
I just ripped this the other day and did NOT have an issue. I can snag the UPC if that is helpful...comicscodedavid wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 6:12 pmIs anyone else having problems ripping the new Northman UHD disk? It seems to be unable to even open the disk. Re: The Northman UHD
I'm having issues with the Northman UHD as well, I'm on 1.17.1 (beta) with a full key.
Using an ASUS BW-16D1HT with custom firmware applied for LibreDrive (already flashed to latest as of 2 months ago). Drive it's self is connected via a USB 3.1 drive shell.
Logs attached. This isn't my first UHD Rip either aside from Back to the Future UHD set.

This looks like the relevant part of your log:
It sorta seems like your drive disappeared from Windows while MakeMKV was ripping.

Re: The Northman UHD
Odd that it only seems to happen with The Northman and not my other UHDs. I guess I could use my backup drive and tap right into SATA 6.0 and see if that helps at all. Actually in the middle of GoT rip and just finished 2 other movies since.

Re: The Northman UHD
After trying 3 drives, two asus, and another model recommended on another thread and 3 replacement discs from amazon later, I finally managed to get it to rip. Same version of hte software. This seems to be a reoccuring them with UHD discs. Drive replacements fixed issues I was having with back to the future trilogy, though it took frankensteining two sets first before settling on one disc being the drives fault and a different disc being the discs fault. Had similar issues with Game of Thrones and had to frankenstein 3 different sets together and use two different drives.
Keep in mind most of the time my Asus drives have no issues (of which I have 2) each of them exibiting their own quirks, but still manage to read the data off.
Point I'm getting at here is the discs are at times to blame, but I think it would be worth consideration to re-asses these drives, the custom firmwares, and even MakeMKV as I don't think the drives themeselves are the actual problem, seems like a software control error. Might be worth updating the LibraDrive thread to reflect some of this information, doesn't seem like anyone's maintianing this, though probably a bit much to expect anyone to do so. So I'm without an actual workable solution.
Anyway glad I got my UHD's on my server. Thank you for the help.

The BD-RE BH14NS40 wouldn't even read it at all. Spins up for ages but never actually reads the disc.
The disc is brand new and never even been put into a Blu-ray player and there are no visible signs of scratches. What's the secret of backing up this disc please guys? Obviously if you guys are having issues then there's more at stake here. Also, if you need to see my logs then let me know how to get that to you. Thanks

Re: The Northman UHD
received the new copy yesterday and it ripped fine in both makeMKV and dvdFAB. I have included pics of the original and new one. The original is still in the case, new copy is sitting on my office desk without the case. Yes, I realize that the original has fingerprints on it, but it was literally new straight out of the case when I tried to copy it. Picture was taken of the original disc after many failed attempts of backing it up. I think given that the file size is almost 70gb so the slightest little mark on the disc would affect the dual or triple layers. Anyways have a new copy now and it backed up fine. But just thought I would follow up and share my experience. Thanks all for the help. Have a great weekend.
