My Wong Kar-wai discs aren't working either. I'm using an LG WH14NS40. Did you ever get them to work?Baggi0 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 04, 2021 2:09 pmI'm getting troubles with the new World of Wong Kar Wai Bluray boxset. Most of the discs don't rip and they each behave the same way when they freeze. Often, MakeMKV leaves no message at all. When it does it's something about corrupt files. I know I'm not the only one getting these issues. New unsupported form of protection or should I replace the discs?

I received the following errors, but the rip completed successfully. Anything to be concerned about or can I trust that the process completed successfully?
Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00000.m2ts' at offset '8897949696'

The brand new disk had a sort of haze on it, and I managed to clean it off, but the errors did not go away. Wondering if I should seek a replacement disc or not or if everything worked out.
I played the mkv file briefly, in different spots, and everything seems fine.

MakeMKV prints out where the log file is being saved at the top of the output window. It is usually the second line of output.jase52476 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 9:12 amSorry if this has been answered already, but if the title eventually gets copied successfully, does it mean it's fine? Usually, if MakeMKV produces an output file, then the rip was successful. If it encounters an unrecoverable error, you won't get an output file at all.
Re: If you're experiencing rip errors, please read here first!
The log file for the rip should show the final status, too, along with the reason it finally "gives up" if it doesn't make it to the end.

Re: If you're experiencing rip errors, please read here first!
I copied the data off the disc and tried to make an MKV from the local disc and it is still failing with hascheck errors and "corrupt or invalid at offset" errors
Re: If you're experiencing rip errors, please read here first!
What did you use to "copy the data"? Did it report any errors?
MakeMKV is designed to read directly from the Bluray, so you don't have to copy the BD to the local disk. Doing so disables MakeMKV's ability to re-try reads on parts of the disk that might "copy" to the hard drive, but not actually be what was seen on the disk. Some BD drives default to sending "most likely" contents during reads that have errors.

I copied the disc two ways. The last way to an ISO, extracted the ISO, and copied over the blu ray decryption file as indicated in other directions. Reading that from my local disc results in errors. The same errors I got when trying to rip it from the disc directly.Woodstock wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 1:29 pmWhat did you use to "copy the data"? Did it report any errors?

Neither file copying software generated errors, nor does playing the movie from disc with VLC.
Re: If you're experiencing rip errors, please read here first!
MakeMKV, unlike most everything else, uses the built-in hash data on a blu-ray to verify that what it has read off the disc is correct. It only produces output when it has verified that all the data it has read is correct.Cartigan wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 9:52 pmI copied the disc two ways. A stand alone blu-ray player generally doesn't check. It blows past errors, hoping they're small enough that you don't notice or quickly forget. Using other software on your computer to copy a disc probably didn't check either. So, if the drive read incorrect data, for whatever reason, when you were making an ISO, MakeMKV will detect that error when reading from the ISO.
This feature of MakeMKV is one of its greatest strengths. It is also occasionally maddening.
Re: If you're experiencing rip errors, please read here first!
That's all well and good. How do I get it to read my disc? How do I know if it's valid errors or not?

Re: If you're experiencing rip errors, please read here first!
Hi all,
New to the forum but not to ripping discs. Ive used Makemkv to rip dvd/bluray without issues for years. Im moving into uhd discs and most rip fine but there are a few that ive had to play with to get ripped but there are 2 in particular that i cant get to work at all. Is this a drive issue or is this a bad disc issue. To be clear even if i have a disc that wont work i can put a different one in and it rips fine. I have a usb bu40n and an internal asus 16wdt that i flashed using the firmware from these forums. The asus is on 3.02 and the bu40n is on 1.0.

Gee, which of a hundred different reasons should we guess at?
Some information would be wonderful.
