I am looking into purchasing a Pioneer BDR-XS07UHD, and by the looks of this forum, I should have no issues. However, I was looking Pioneers product page and found that there was a firmware update (version 1.02) that was released on 12/21/2022. Should I be reluctant of updating the firmware? Could it possibly block access to rip DVDs and BDs? This forum has been a lot of help!

The SDF update time for new firmwares varies. In this particular case, all 8 Pioneer firmwares released yesterday are already integrated in latest SDF.bin and are supported. Sometimes it takes much longer, though...

I am a bit overwhelmed. My BP50NB40 - SVC NB52 is supposed to work with Windows or Mac OS. These instructions relate to the SDFtool Flasher, which is an .exe. How do I flash to NB50 1.03-MK on my MacBook Pro? Is there a .dmg out there?

No dmg. You could create a VM with Windows 10 64 bit or Win 11 64 bit. Don't forget to add your physical drive before starting VM. See here:

Otherwise, ask a friend that has a windows PC to help you out.
Cheers

If you're comfortable with the command line, you can flash your drive using Terminal in macOS. The instructions are near the bottom of the first post in this thread.
Going the route MartyMcNuts suggested is probably easier.

I just saw this one (BDR-XD08UMB-S) on the pioneer site, and it supports UHD, would it be libredrive compatible to rip UHD with makemkv? Also, is it still safe to update firmware on drives like this? Will there be MK firmwares like there were for other drives in the past?

are the Pioneer drives US only? Can’t find any of them here in Germany available.
Want to get a second drive that’s no needed to be flashed.

No. You can find them in Germany but not the newest models. Full size "12" series and slim size "07" series. In the US they sell already "13" and "08" series.
Se also the PN that I have sent to you.
