LG WH16NS40 won't read UHD (No disc inserted)

#1 Post by scoobydoo » Mon Dec 19, 2022 11:48 pm

Hi, as the title says my drive doesn't seem to detect any UHD disks, all regular blu-rays seem to work fine though. I flashed it with the WH16NS60 1.02 firmware as advised here viewtopic.php?f=16&t=19634.

Any advice would be appricated, thank you!

if regular blurays work its flashed fine.
if you didnt already give it a full power cycle leave it off a min or so.
then try if still no try cleaning the UHD discs and then clean the lasers of the drive but if this is new i would just return it as i stopped selling these long ago because they had such bad quality control.
i recommend you go for a WP/BP50NB40 you can get they for $80-90 or you can get a preflashed and tested one from me.

Thanks for the advice Billy - it is a new drive and still doesn't recognise discs with several clean UHD discs and power cycle. Unfortunately i'm not US-based, so will need to find another available drive.
Appreciate the help

The Flashing Guide has a list of sellers. There might be one in your geography.

I have 2 of these wh16ns40 drives. They have been working for months and then all of a sudden they can't see any 4k disks. I re-flashed with the MK firmware I saw in the flashing guide, I tried version 1.00, 1.02 and 1.03 of the patched versions, but the drive still won't see the disks anymore. After trying to re-flash the drives they will not see the regular blu ray disks anymore as well, does the indicate the both drives are now bricked? Is there a way to fix them?

Thanks.
Here is a screen shot of one of the drives.

Have you power-cycled the drives? If internal, shut down PC for a few seconds & re-power (reboot is NFG... doesn't remove power). External, just unplug power for a few seconds. This MAY clear things up.

I did try to power down the PC, but it did not work. I was thinking of power down and change sata port, I will let you know what happens, but I have a sinking feeling that the drives are bricked.

Thanks for your feedback.
