Hi guys-
Have been noticing more and more errors on my drive and am trying to troubleshoot before full-on replacing the drive.
Have been getting issues where the drive will give hardware errors and make weird noises, but then after a power cycle or a cleaning, will get the disc to rip. this has been occuring with more frequency and tonight, i'm not able to get makemkv to rip my new uhd discs w/o scratches. sometimes, makemkv doesn't even recognize that there is a blu-ray drive attached to the pc and requires a power cycle.
Get errors like " Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:INVALID FIELD IN CDB' occurred while reading 'BD-RE HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH16NS60 1.01 M69J3P35816' at offset '275382272'
Before i purchased a new drive, i was wondering if it is worth trying a lens cleaner like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003EEMDMC?ps ... yp_imgToDp
is it worth a shot? is there a lens cleaner that you guys recommend?
any other trouble shooting i should do like replacing my drive cables in my pc?
If i have to replace the drive, I Have been looking primarily at the bu40n w/icy dock to get it into my 5.25 slot on my pc or the pioneer bdr-212ubk.
Should i consider any other drives in terms of reliability? Don't really care about speed.
The pioneer looks nice because i don't have to flash it, but not seeing it anywhere for less than $150.
Thanks in advance.

nah dont try one of those disc if your going to clean it clean it right way take the drive apart and clean the lens with alcohol little brushes get dust off not the haze bluray discs can leave behind.
but before cleaning the drive always clean the disc even if its new.
i would go with the BU40N works with the most programs and i have seen some of my customers rip 900+ discs with it.

very cool. Do you think it's a dirty lens based on the error? Are they hard to take apart?Billycar11 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 12:46 amnah dont try one of those disc if your going to clean it clean it right way take the drive apart and clean the lens with alcohol little brushes get dust off not the haze bluray discs can leave behind.

definitely bu40n over a wh14ns40 too, right?
Saw this one: https://www.amazon.com/HLDS-BU40N-Inter ... merReviews
is that the correct drive?
Thanks. i saw an hlds and an lg for sale. didn't know if there was a distinction.
I was reading that the icy dock is not super well-made and may have to drill some holes in it to accompany the drive, do you know of any other adapters that will allow the slim drive to fit into a 5.25 slot on a pc. Leaning towards the pioneer for this reason.
correct me if i'm wrong here, but the pioneer's are pretty reliable from what i'm reading, just a little slow which isn't an issue.

so just installed my pioneer and it worked great. have my 16ns60 and i cleaned the lens w/a q-tip. I heard varying things about using isopropyl alcohol and lens damage so just used a qtip first. Would love your thoughts on it - I currently have 70% isopropyl alcohol.
still getting errors on the 4k disc that i was able to rip fine before the drive started acting up and now w/the pioneer. Windows recognizes that it is a 4k disc, but it makes funny noises when i try to back it up. I'm on the 1.01 firmware and it says MT1959 and libredrive enabled.
I put in a regular blu-ray disc, and the 16ns60 is working fine on the BD. If it works for BD, but not UHD, is there anything else i can do to salvage the drive?

A qtip probably got it about 50% clean I always used alcohol and it has fixed drives just make sure to dry it with the other side or the qtip to remove the residue

It was working fine w/bd before the wiping. I'll try w/alcohol and see how it goes.Billycar11 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 06, 2022 8:58 pmA qtip probably got it about 50% clean I always used alcohol and it has fixed drives just make sure to dry it with the other side or the qtip to remove the residue
