Thanks for the advice. Can the BU40n be flashed to a firmware version without the sleep bug? And if so, is it actually a version you'd recommend or is it just better to keep the bug in mind and make sure I start the rip within 2 minutes of inserting the disc?

The BU40N is an official UHD drive so does not have the sleep bug at all.

The BU40N is an official UHD drive so does not have the sleep bug at all.

Do you know if my BP50NB40 SVC:NB52, flashed with BP60NB10 w/1.00 firmware still has the sleep bug? It's labeled as "officialish".
Considering returning it for a BU40N drive if my BP50 has the sleep bug still.

Hi, I'm a little lost here, so If somebody could help me I would be really grateful.

I've read the guide and I'm aware of the recommended cables/enclosures, but the only ones sold in my country seems to be Alxum on Amazon. The product codes they sell are varied e.g: AX-3322C, Y-3324A, AX-S301A, AX-S101A, and they all look similar. Sadly, none of them is named AX-SC021NEW, so I don't know how is it supposed to look.

Googling brings few results but this picture came up. Is this the one?:

Also, does anybody have any experience using FIDECO branded SATA to USB 3.0 adapters? I only found one post of someone using a FIDECO adapter, but it's from December 2020, so maybe someone has had more experience since then.

I'm not sure I understand, unless this has something to do with whether the firmware is encrypted.

In SDFtool Flasher v1.3.4, MT1959 Platform is checked, but Encrypted Firmware is NOT checked. Also, regardless of which firmware I select to flash to the drive, the process SEEMS to work properly as it's flashing, but the firmware doesn't actually flash to the drive. It remains unchanged.

EDIT: Disregard. I ended up using a different tool, but it seems I could've just resolved this by checking the Encrypted Firmware option (which I didn't realize was interactive) on the SDFtool Flasher interface.

So, you see, there's this thing called "instructions", that when actually read, will tell you how to use a tool and if there are any other features a tool may have....

There're also things known as RESPONSES WITH MORE THAN THREE CHARACTERS and a concept known as NOT CHANGING BASIC GUI ELEMENTS SO THEY'RE UNRECOGNIZABLE AS FUNCTIONAL ELEMENTS. I mean, I'm super-impressed you know how to change a checkbox to not even look like a checkbox, but it's that sort of thing that makes tech generally less accessible to a lot of people in a LOT of other applications.

I just noticed this response while I was scouring this forum for an answer to another issue I have. I don't post here very often. I scoured the hell out of that original post and was very detailed in breaking down what I tried, and I scour the hell out of this forum pretty often. How much is considered a reasonable amount for someone to read to get an answer? And how is it worth anyone's time to type ENC on a form on which that sequence of three letters appears a billion times? I understand that there're probably instructions for EVERYTHING mentioned on this forum, but you're underestimating how difficult those are to find.

I appreciate what you guys do in making all the tools and whatnot on this forum available, and I know you're not obligated to respond to anyone who posts here, but I've got a great idea: if you're going to give half-hearted or smarmy responses to people who've clearly TRIED finding a solution, then maybe don't bother responding to them at all.

I'm not sure if this is directed at me or Billy (or both of us) but if you had of actually tried to find a solution as you claim, you would (should) have read the instructions in the very same post where you downloaded the SDFtool flasher from which tells you everything you need to know about how to use it and you would never have had to ask that question.

Now, regarding the instructions for SDFtool Flasher, I'm assume you're referring to this part:

"UPDATE - 08/01/2022:
In the latest update, I have re-enabled the selectable encrypted firmware option for you just in case you need it. On the rare occasion the automatic encryption check is incorrect, simply click the ✔ or ✖ to toggle it."

My apologies for that oversight, but I don't generally go through update/patch notes to find instructions on how to use a piece of software. That said, those instructions still wouldn't have helped, as I didn't have a checkmark or an x there; by default, I see a blank spot in place of where the checkmark or x COULD be. The only option I knew could ever be checked/unchecked was the boot loader option, as that at least shows as a grayed-out checkbox when it's not selected. The other two are just blank.

Just out of curiosity, why does the guide recommend that users crossflash an LG BH16NS55 with the WH16NS60 1.02MK firmware to enable UHD playback, when they can just downgrade to BH16NS55 1.02 or use the WH16NS60 1.01MK that, according to the guide, also fixes the sleep bug?

because it fixes the sleepbug enables faster ripping and has better reliability

I purchased two WH16NS40s and enclosed them in OWC Mercury Pro 5.25s. They are connected via USB to a Windows 11 PC. Flashed both to WH16NS60 1.02MK using GUI SDF. First drive flashed fine and is operating as expected. Second drive flash resulted in "Command produced error code 0x8f062900" and can't seem to load DVDs. It will load BDs. Recommendations?

• Purchased a LG WH16NS40 running, HL-DT-ST_BD-RE__WH16NS40_1.05_212005061440_M42M5D55021 encrypted

• Used SDFtool Flasher to back up OG firmware and flash to the MK firmware, HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS40-NS50-1.05-NM00900-212005061440 unencrypted

• Used SDFtool Flasher to downgrade to HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936

The MK 1.05 had a lot of errors opening discs, but with 1.02 MakeMKV has worked with no issues so far. Fingers crossed!
