What drive + software do I need to watch 4k hdr Blurays on pc?

#1 Post by hideto » Mon Aug 29, 2022 8:13 am

I've been researching this the past few days and I am pretty confused but I assumed someone in this community could explain this to me. I just got The AW3423DW monitor so I want to start watching 4K HDR Blurays on my pc but I don't really understand what I am looking for. I've found some 4K quad layer reading Bluray drives but if I just wanted to put in a movie and play it I would also need to buy some kind of software to play the movie. Do most people rip movies and then play the downloaded rip with Makemkv?

Basically can someone just point me to what Drive I need to buy and then how I should go about watching movies?

I'm only going to talk about unofficial playback here as official is basically dead and now impossible since after Intel 10th gen and before that it required extreme caution when setting up and following except steps.

So for for unofficial playback you want a drive without the sleepbug like a BU40N or a UHD pioneer.
I sell the BU40Ns if you want a preflashed and tested one.
Then you need to own licence to makemkv and setup integration with your media player of choice VLC jriver mpc mad vr ect.
Then you can playback the discs directly without ripping
If you want assistance setting it up email me contact info below
