I don't want to change the subject, but can I ask a quick question?
Is it possible to convert a DV MEL UHD (dvhe.07.06) to DV 8.0 (or is it 8.1) without any loss of quality?
I'm trying to convert my rip of The Matrix (1999) which MediaInfo reports the following:
Code: Select all
Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, dvhe.07.06, BL+EL+RPU, Blu-ray compatible / SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible

Yes. Start with options 1 => 7 => 2 and then select the option that matches the type of audio processing you need.

So after all these testings is there a consensus on which player is the most accurate?

Have you guys ever tested convert those p8 to p7 MEL?
Although it’s highly unlikely, but please give p7 MEL a test to rule out some possibility.

Hey guys,
I am newbie here and this is my first post on this forum.
I have the Sony x700 and the Zidoo Z1000 Pro. My tv is the Sony 77A80J OLED.
I am trying to play a Dolby Vision FEL encoded MKV file through the Sony X700, but it shows only Black screen and freezes up.
I then tried to convert the DoVi FEL MKV file to M2TS file via tsmuxer because I read somewhere that the Sony X700 can read DoVi FEL M2TS files, and then I tried to play that file on the X700. However it doesn’t play - black screen again. It works only if turn off Dolby Vision on the X700, but in that case I only get HDR10.
Is there a way to convert that MKV file to M2TS or some other type of file and then play it on the Sony X700 while utilizing the full fat DoVi format?
UHD players: Sony X700, Zidoo Z1000 Pro
Audio system: Sony HT-A9
TV: Sony 77A80J

Assuming players are all Nvidia Shield, is there any benefit to converting P7 to P8?
The Shield discards the EL and plays back with RPU data when playing P7, which is nice. Does DoviScripts P7 to P8 conversion bring anything from the EL into the BL or is it discarded during conversion?

EL is discarded and P8 playback is much more reliable on the Shield.

you can use the script in my signature.
mux BL.hevc, EL.hevc and audio.THD+ac3 in tsmuxer and enjoy FEL DV on the x700.

Thank you, will do so!
The .gif you posted says that the workflow expects the first file to be video and the second to be audio (the Atmos track I assume). In my MKV file the second file is not the Atmos track. If that is the case, should I first recomposition the files within the MKV container and, if yes, which program should I use to do that?
Many thanks

Well, in that case, you could just select a workflow that doesnt convert the audio and convert the audio separately with eac3to.
https://www.videohelp.com/software/eac3to
The best workflow is to use the original BD in the first place instead of a P7 MKV.
FYI, audio conversion is only needed when TrueHD is in an MKV container.
So when your input has DTS-HD or if the input is an original BD, no audio conversion is required

Hello,
I've just ripped Westworld S01 UHDs and have several questions about it.
Judging by DV EL bitrate (120 kb/s) it looks like a P7 MEL release, but seems to be encoded as a P7 FEL (reported by MakeMKV and DoVi Scripts_1.4.7/dovitool). I'm not an expert in the DV metadata info and just demuxed the S01E01 track into BL+RPU+EL. RPU is 18mb and EL is 58mb. When converted to MKV and played back, the EL-only track seems to look like a standard MEL - just plain grey image for the whole duration of the file. I've uploaded EL and RPU
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/154396onvqld ... mG1Ja?dl=0. Would appreciate it very much, if somebody more knowledgeable could take a look what's really going on in these DV layers and if it's safe to just convert it to P8 without loosing anything (for archival purposes). Thanks a lot!

Which workflow do you recommend in that case?
I couldn’t find version 1.4.8 of your script on the link in you signature, where can it be downloaded?
Many thanks

in each mode, there's always one workflow that doesnt touch the audio at all.
1.4.7 is the right version. I'm always one version ahead.

Westworld is MEL
Extract only the EL HEVC stream off any p7 UHD and put it into an mkv container and play it, if it's all green on playback it's MEL, if it's grey/white and you see motion artifacts (usually reddish and greenish squares here and there) it's FEL, as you did.
All p7 is FEL technically IIRC, it's the UHD DV delivery profile/package, MEL is a sub type of FEL between 'real' FEL and MEL, so to speak
