Double Indemnity (Criterion) 4K - Failed to open disc (May 31st Release)

Post by HDMOVIESOURCE »

Hi,

Double Indemnity 4K (Criterion Collection) is out today (May 31st - 2022) and MKV says "Failed to open disc"

I have the Pioneer BDR-XD07UHD 4K drive, and this thing has no issues reading discs, it's great, but this one just cannot read.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED
MakeMKV v1.16.7 win(x64-release) started
Using LibreDrive mode (v01.0 id=27184B96DBEE)
Using direct disc access mode
Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.
Saved AACS dump file as C:\Users\mlg_t/.MakeMKV/MKB20_v76_DOUBLE_INDEMNITY_B818.tgz
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Failed to open disc

Does anybody know what the issue is? Are they using a more advanced security method?

Any feedback is welcome.
Carl.

Today is May 31st. The disk came out today. So, it isn't on the list yet.

If you've sent the file in, it should be extractable within a few days, though.

You want to send C:\Users\mlg_t/.MakeMKV/MKB20_v76_DOUBLE_INDEMNITY_B818.tgz to svq@makemkv.com for processing.

Okay, thank you.

Is there a way to check when these titles are added? Is there a link to a nightly build or a weekly build for MakeMKV that adds new titles like? Or is there new builds going up all of the time? Thanks.

Cannot say - have not tried any 4K disks recently. And it only checks to see if there is a key when you ask MakeMKV to decode a 4K disk.

What will definitely happen (assuming you have automatic downloads enabled) is that, once the system is updated, MakeMKV will download the key from the server. If it hasn't downloaded it yet, it hasn't been updated yet.

Oh I see, so as long as that's enabled I don't have to download a new version or anything right?

FYI, there may be multiple versions of this disc. I tried to read my copy using MakeMKV, and it gives me the same error as the OP. Only difference is my AACS dump file has a different name.

OP:
MKB20_v76_DOUBLE_INDEMNITY_B818.tgz

mine:
MKB20_v76_DOUBLE_INDEMNITY_EE83.tgz

Of course, I sent my tgz file in, so hopefully it gets added soon.

If anyone is also running into this problem there seems to be a third version of this disc:

OP:
MKB20_v76_DOUBLE_INDEMNITY_B818.tgz

Dan-O:
MKB20_v76_DOUBLE_INDEMNITY_EE83.tgz

Mine:
MKB20_v76_DOUBLE_INDEMNITY_F117.tgz

I just submitted the dump.
