How do I reset my freeware version with the latest version download?

I keep getting a "this is too old" error message even after I download the latest version (in this case 1.15.1 Beta. Just where is this "latest version" to download to reset the freeware?
I am on a fixed income, and the end of the month is when I will be able to register and buy makeMKV. Or is the whole "reset" thing not true?

The current version is 1.17.0, with 1.15.1 being "too old" for its original serial number.

A later version of 1.17 will be coming "soon", from the looks of things.
