Request file splitting

Post by bobbygee »

I don't know if this is the right area to request a feature of MakeMKV to be able to specify file size when creating a file. My player only accepts FAT32 drives which limits file size to 4GB.

Hi!

"mike admin" has previously stated that MakeMKV does not and will not compress files.

Many other postings have suggested using "Handbrake" to perform such a function after the fact (After using MakeMKV to create an .MKV)

I am not requesting that the file be compressed, just that it be split up into 4GB chunks.

Use mkvmerge to split it.

If I use mkvmerge to split it, the file will not play on LG BD360 player, even with header compression set to none. At first, mkvmerge took 4 hours to process the file with splitting enabled. After submitting a bug report, mkvmerge was fixed so that splitting took about 4 minutes, but the file won't play. The file from MakeMKV plays fine. So presently, I have used MakeMKV to rip some DVDs to my hard disk, but some rips are over the 4GB limit.

That seems bad. Are you using 4.60? Cause there was an issue with DTS-HD MA tracks but that was fixed I think in 4.50.

It was 4.6.0 before the fix for the split problem was added on a pre-build.

@bobbygee

Hi!

I believe you can either use "SplitMKV" (by my good friend "deank") as a standalone that you can download from:

http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/splitMKV/

or use the version that is built in to the ubiquitous "multiAVCHD"

I had tried splitmkv 0.2 a few days ago, and after running all night, it was only 86% done on a 4.1GB file, so it is not for me. Anyway, when run, it says it is mkvmerge 2.5.3.
