I've been using dvdbackup on Linux to copy dvds to the hard drive then running makemkv to extract titles from the vobs. Before 1.17.0 I got a lot of corrupt data found errors on some discs. 1.17.0 seems to work a lot better, but on a couple of discs I get a new error and makemkvcon seems to stop running but does not actually terminate.
MSG:2003,0,3,"Error 'Internal error - Input parameter is incorrect (489)' occurred while reading '/media/keith/Elements2tb1/dvdbackup/tvseries/Andromeda/S1C5D1/Andromeda Vol5 Disc A/VIDEO_TS/VTS_04_0.BUP' at offset '0'","Error '%1' occurred while reading '%2' at offset '%3'","Internal error - Input parameter is incorrect (489)","/media/keith/Elements2tb1/dvdbackup/tvseries/Andromeda/S1C5D1/Andromeda Vol5 Disc A/VIDEO_TS/VTS_04_0.BUP","0"

Re: New error with 1.17.0
I second this.
I have a DVD folder (decrypted) which I try convert to MKVs. It has 4 titles 3 of which extract just fine. But one results in the above error (v1.17.2)
Tried v1.16.5 — same error, though this time code 477 not 489.
Note that VLC plays the DVD folder just fine, including the title that fails to extract.

Re: New error with 1.17.0
Had the same error. In the end, I used MKVToolNix as a workaround: Open each of the different VTS_0X_0.VOB from the VIDEO_TS folder. The program automatically recognizes the remaining VOB files of the one you opened, so when you multiplex afterward, you get a single file.
Re: New error with 1.17.0
It is probably corrupted data that is confusing MakeMKV.
Some LG/ASUS are known to just insert random data into the stream if they have trouble properly reading a disc. Pioneer drives don't seem to do this.
For blu-rays, MakeMKV uses the content hash table on the disc to verify that what was read off the disc is correct. DVDs don't have that, so it helps to be a bit lucky.
If you gently clean the disc and rip it again, you might get a better result.
