Since I encode 2160p -> 1080p, with letterbox bars (I don't crop), it is mentioned to edit the active area. I never read this before. How does it work, and why would I need to edit it? When playing the 1080p DV files, it plays fine, and I wont see anything that shouldn't be there? I hope someone can clarify this for me. Also, did this came in later? Also didn't read anthing about it ~October 2021.
it plays fine on shield (or any hdmi device) because they ignore L5 active area... If you play your encode in an LG OLED internal player and if you left the active area untouched (for 2160p), your video will be overcropped.

Example: if the UHD video has L5 top/bottom 280/280 and you apply that to a 1080p video, the TV will display: 1920X520.

So you just have to edit the Active area to match the new resolution. To do that , just divide the number by two. L5 becomes: 140/140 and the TV will display correctly 1920x800.

if you crop, just set L5 0,0 and crop=true

Ahh alright. So whenever the content is played using a External Media Player (Shield, AppleTV and sort), it doesn't matter? Only when the internal player is used, is causes problems?

yes, exactly and in my opinion, DV will be better/more accurate when you use the internal TVs player.

Possible, but I keep the Lossless audiotrack, only the Shield uses passthrough for that. If I share my Plex libriary then I external mediaplayer would be neceassary for them, or they just the HD share:+.

Do you have any tips on how I can match framerates for my second question? Regarding WEB-DL's which have a HDR & DV release? I would like to inject the RPU in the HDR, but I don't have clear how to determine what to do to match the framerate.

Alright thanks. Do you think it will be different from creating a BluRay Hybrid? I saw a post from you ~ february 2021, where you showed how you made hybrids with Onward & Soul.

the frame rate was the same. I never had to deal with releases with different frame rate yet.

Sorry I probably used the wrong words. The framerate of the video's are the same. But the lengths are not. If I inject the RPU into the HDR file, I get the message that the length doesn't match. So my question is really what's best to found the difference between the videos; the ''How'' and how to fix it.

Ha, the total duration doesn't matter as long as it's the same director cut or theatrical cut. When I do hybrid, there's 95% of the time a mismatch length, all normal.

Ahh alright. But something like this: if i open Episode 1 - HDR, and Episode 1 - DV, and go to the same frame, the frame (like you showed with Onward), isn't matching. Do I need to correct that difference on the frontside only now? Since it duplicated at the end?

yes of course, you have to remove or duplicate frames otherwise the rpu wont be in sync with the HDR10 BL. The only thing you can ignore is the mismatch warning at the end.
check my dovi scripts, there are tutorial videos

I don't know if this has been clarified before. It's about the X700 Dolby Vision capabilities. I noticed that when I play an m2ts video file that I know is in DV, the OSD of the player does not show it as a DV content, but it does trigger DV on my TV (LG B7P).
(Ghostbusters m2ts with DV):

When I play an mp4 file, the player's OSD show that it is DV (and naturally, it triggers it on the TV as well).
(Parasite mp4 remux with DV):

The thing is that when I play an m2ts that it's in HDR10, it still triggers DV, like the example below.
(Sex, Lies and Videotape with HDR10):

Sooooo, the question is... is there a way we know for sure that the X700 is correctly playing an m2ts with DV instead of "artificially converting" it like it does with non-DV m2ts files?

you have to remux your BD with nightly tsmuxer and then you'll get true DV with m2ts/ts files. The x700 osd will confirm it

Research playing DV on my cheapest Android TV Hisense 55E7G:

1. Dolby Vision MP4 remux always works, subtitle should be outside same name, on srt or ass version. all normals at FF/RW
2. Dolby Vision TS remux by TSmuxer nightly, sometimes smooth, sometimes can't be played at all(even in PC!), subtitle not in sync. Buggy.

To Dovi script author.

1. For MKV to MP4, with PGS Subtitle included, it shall be continue process with asking for additonal SRT file instead stop it. And there is a workway just remux the audio stream, EAC/AC3 with Atmos, no need of decoding or convert it. OR there is mkv muxer script with removing SUP subtitle and adding SRT instead.

Mode 5 - MKV to TS,
Failed to auto-detect SRT encoding : falling back to the active code page
Invalid SRT format. "PG" is invalid timing info
Decoding E-AC3 (DD+) stream (track 2): Bitrate: 538Kbps (core 0Kbps) Sample Rate: 48KHz Channels: 7.1

2. For MP4 muxing from Mode.M4
Only 1 SRT subtitle can be added. Cant add more?
Seems not working on my Hisense for showing subtitle inside.
I Will try with subler for comparison instead, but need a hackintosh for use it. Usually worked for my old HD samsung TV.
