Step confirmation for BH16NS40

Post by BonJavi »

Hello everyone!

I've been on the forum for a few days studying how to enable UHD reading on my BH16NS40. It would be the normal update, but if it is also possible to improve speeds with the BH16NS60 firmware, even better. The chosen option is official DE downgrade. Please correct me if I have indicated a wrong step. I want to be sure before doing anything.

My BH16NS40 is SVC:51

https://i.ibb.co/cQP8rmN/Make.png

1.
With GUI SDF tool v1.2.0 + enc activated => mk-firmware-pack-20200720 "HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BH16NS40-NS50-1.05-NM00600-212005061331.bin"

2.
Option 1: With BH14NS40_N1.00-A4_patched.exe => Downgrade Enabled Firmware V.2 "DE_flash_HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BH16NS40_1.02_NS50.bin" (Standard).
Option 2: With BH14NS40_N1.00-A4_patched.exe => The all you need firmware pack.zip "HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin" (Improvements over
BH16NS40).
Option 3: With BH14NS40_N1.00-A4_patched.exe => Downgrade Enabled Firmware V.2 "DE_LG WH16NS60_1.00.bin" (Improvements over BH16NS40 + Fix Sleep).

It would be correct? Was there any detail missing? Do you recommend me to stay in BH16NS40? If I do it to WH16NS60, do you recommend version 1.00 or 1.02? I have also seen that some colleagues do it at 1.03. I don't know if that would be possible.

All the best! And thanks for all the help.

Hello.

@Billycar11. Well, in the guide I understood that if the firmware was encrypted (My version 1.05 is) I had to go through Firmware MK before.

@MartyMcNuts. If I thought it had to be done with version v1.2.0, it's because I see the enc option. In version 1.3.3 I don't see that the enc option can be activated. (I just opened the program. I haven't done anything yet).

So I won't do anything for now. Since I have read the guide several times and I have not understood it well. :(

Thanks for everything

Hello!

Understanding that version v1.3.3 automatically does the ENC verification and activation, ok.

Have you seen the photo in the link? My firmware is encrypted. Based on everything you've read, if you have encrypted firmware, you can't go straight to WH16NS60 1.02. To the MK version, yes.
There must be a misunderstanding, or the more I read, the less clear everything is... :(

All the best

You can go straight to NS60 1.02mk from encrypted firmware I did all this testing stop posting false info that will make others confused

I want to go to 1.02 DE. Not MK.
It is not my intention to post false information. I've been reading the Guide thread quite a bit, and my doubts are based on the above.

¿Can someone tell me the exact steps to get to WH16NS40 1.02 DE please?

Billy is talking about NS60 1.02-MK, not NS40 1.02. The NS60 firmware is normally preferable as it reads faster and removes the sleep bug.

However, if you want to end up using DE WH16NS40 1.02, simply flash the drive to WH16NS60 1.02-MK, then flash again to DE WH16NS40 1.02.
Cheers :D

Hi marty. Yes, I got confused. I meant WH16NS60 1.02 DE. I understand that this does not alter your instructions. I appreciate the help. What you indicate is the conclusion that I have come to after much reading. But Billy tells me it's not like that, and I don't understand a thing. I read many post from colleagues indicating that it is as you say, Marty. So that's why my confusion.

Thank you very much.

Edit: After further reading here and there, I see that the Firmware I thought, from The all you need firmware pack was WH16NS60 1.02 DE, I think it's MK. Since it doesn't specify it, and there is the file mk-firmware-pack-20200720, I thought that the MKs were there.

Therefore, I cannot find the WH16NS60 1.02 DE. It is possible that all this confusion was because of that. In such a case, if there is no WH16NS60 1.02 DE, you should go to version 1.00 DE of the Downgrade Enabled Firmware V.2 file. Understanding, after going through WH16NS60 1.02 MK File Downgrade Enabled Firmware V.2.
It's right?

Hello!

I updated to 1.02 MK with SDFtool Flasher. Then with SDFtool Flasher to DE WH16NS60 1.00.

I ran test recordings and everything seemed normal. But in Makemkv it gives me reading errors. Though not always. I managed to rip Dark Knight Rises, but the errors persist.

So I went back to 1.02 MK and there are no read failures. I can see how the reading is more fluid.
I have reverted to WH16NS60 1.00 with SDFtool Flasher, and the errors return.

Should I downgrade from 1.02 to 1.00 with LG's BH14NS40_N1.00-A4_patched.exe tool?

Maybe I would have to go to a Firmware of BH16NS40, which allows UHD (If it exists), like WH16NS60 1.00 does?

Greetings and thank you for your help.
Your already on 1.00 ns60
Firmware change won't have any effect on read errors it's just luck of the out come changes
When that happens the first step is always clean the disc
Then replace disc
Then clean drive
Then replace drive

Hello.

OK, if I had to replace the unit, could I load the following Firmware?

LG_BH16NS40_1.05_Official_Flasher. I found it on the forum. It is the official firmware. Indicates the following in the text file.

New firmware(1.05) for BH16NS40 (SVC Code : NS50)

Neither SVC is NS51 Would there be any problem?

I am now on MK 1.02.

The BH16NS40 is new, it arrived yesterday. :(

Thank you Billy!

Returning th drive is a last resort.

Just give the disc a good clean before trying it again. UHD discs are hard to read due to data density, thus it must be absolutely spotless. Most discs need to be cleaned, even when brand new out of the box.

The Disc arrived today is the only one I have.

I also have a Verbatim 43888 (Pioneer BDR-UD04) It reads UHD fine. In fact, when you insert the disc it reacts much sooner than the BH16NS40.
I have cleaned the Disk several times. I have no way to clean the drive.
I'm desperate.
When I did the Update at no time did I get an error. All went well. I don't know what to do.

Why not just rip it with your BDR-UD04??? Pioneer drives are awesome!

Also, FYI, not every disc will work in every drive. Some discs just won't work in one drive but works fine in another drive. This is why most of us have multiple different model drives.
