Getting started ripping 4k discs
Getting started ripping 4k discs
Hey, I've been ripping non-uhd blu rays for a couple of years now and I want to make the move to 4k but i'm not sure where to start. The official guide seems really confusing to me and I really don't want to destroy a drive accidentally. As I understand I have to buy a drive from the list, ensure it was made after 2015, and flash it with the correct firmware? I have a couple of questions like where exactly am I supposed to get the firmware and how do I actually go about flashing the drive? My current drive is a cheap Matshita bd-cmb uj-120, I know it's not listed and this is a shot in the dark but is there any chance that it's just a rebranded blu ray drive that is uhd friendly so that I could flash it?

What does MakeMKV say about the drive? There is a section of the info window that will display whether your drive is capable of.
