Chapters out of sync?

MKV playback, recompression, remuxing, codec packs, players, howtos, etc.

Chapters out of sync?

#1 Post by Ferrett1983 » Mon Feb 28, 2022 9:03 am

I've ripped a few movies recently and have noticed the chapter timings are out. When I skip to a chapter there is maybe a second from the previous chapter. I assumed makemkv give 1:1 copy? Would there be a way of not having any chapters?

Do you rip to mkv or full disc backup? And do you playback your MakeMKV rip with the same player you use for your original disk?

A number of possibilities, the more likely is how a video is encoded.

The usual way of doing things is to take a full frame, then encode the differences between that frame and the next, and the next, etc. The full frame is a "key" frame, and they do not necessarily fall where a chapter marker points. The player has to find either the previous or next key frame to start playback.

Sometimes the markers are just off because the disk author was careless.
