Drive options and USB confusion

Post by Travels »

After reading countless posts I am still a bit confused. I have a PC but do I still need a USB or enclosure to flash my drive to make it UHD friendly or can it be done while connected straight to the mainboard?

I will have access to only two drives I can purchase, my thinking is the LG, and they are:

LG BH16NS55 or Pioneer BDR-212DBK

1. The Pioneer 212DBK is not UHD compatible. (Only Pioneer UHD drives currently work)
2. You can connect your LG drive to SATA on motherboard. Lots of people go for enclosures or powered adapters as most PC cases these days don't have an optical drive slot.

3. To save you some hassle, you could purchase a fully prepared and tested LG from me! (See my signature)

Ended up with the LG drive and was able to flash and rip my first disk successfully. Now need to work out how to playback the file on my TV and have my soundbar pick up the Dolby Atmos track.

I'm not sure if any TV's internal player can do this. It would need to be able to passthru HD audio and your soundbar would need to be atmos compatible. You may have better luck with an external player.
