From the UHD FAQ...

MakeMKV says that "the volume key is unknown for this disc"?
MakeMKV produces an AACS .tgz dump file whenever you try to open a disc for which the key is unknown, and will report that the dump has been created. Email the dump file to svq@makemkv.com.

This will get results more quickly than posting dump to forum...

Hmm I tried a decrypt/backup but didn't get a tgz file... i got all the text below and now even after a reboot i'm getting "no disc" in makemkv?

I emailed a dump file for Dune 4K UHD + BluRay I got off Amazon (looks like the same dump file name that lcsbaldy attached here a few days ago, MKB20_v76_Dune_96FE.tgz) to svq@makemkv.com on the 23rd, but no luck yet. I have "Enable internet access" on - is the idea then just keep trying until it eventually works? Just want to make sure I don't have to do anything else.

The strange thing is nothing at all had been physically touched (both usbs have been plugged in for weeks). Didn't mess with the usb cables at all but went ahead and fully powered off the computer and back on and it is detecting again (and seems to be decrypting fine so far) - thank you!

Similar thing happened to me. Tried it with a European Disc and at first it failed at opening the disc (dump file already sent), then it suddenly stopped recognizing the disc altogether.

Now it just rattles for a minute or so and shows "no disc". Really weird. Other UHDs work just fine.

If I understand correctly, we all send the tgz files in and Mike makes changes so that, if your MakeMKV installation is configured for internet access, it should go retrieve the necessary info to decrypt the disc. Is that right? If that's correct, then I guess I have a version of the Dune 4K disc that has not been seen yet by users of MakeMKV (or at least not sent in). Should I then send in my tgz dump file?

Yes, MakeMKV will download the necessary things if configured to access the internet (and your internet isn't blocking things; the server it downloads from is in Russia). Sometimes, movies have more than one key, so yes you should send in your .tgz file.

Not quite. Dumps are generated automatically, but MUST be manually emailed to svq@makemkv.com.
