This seems to be copy protection and not a bad disc (the disc plays fine otherwise.)
I'm on a Mac, so it's not available to me. (I have access to a Windows PC, so maybe I will give it a try if I get the chance.) Part of me thinks it's unlikely that a 15-year-old app would more likely work than apps updated in 2021... but you never know.
Is that drive powered via USB? Does it have two USB connectors and are they both connected either to the computer or two a powered USB hub? I wonder if your drive is running out of power.

Great call! That was the problem! (Or at least, -a- problem. I'd suspected power might be an issue, but I never thought it would manifest itself with those kinds of errors.)
