Halloween Kills blu-ray av sync issues

#1 Post by jrogers » Sat Jan 15, 2022 5:49 pm

I am getting av sync issues in about 2 or 3 places when ripping the disc. reddit forum suggested that it was because the disc has theatrical and extended versions on same disc. I am using Plex and Nvidia Shield to watch and seems to be only Dolby Atmos audio stream. Reddit users seem to think i'ts a Plex or Shield issue but Makemkv is SHOWING AV SYNC ISSUES. Any fix or help would be great.

Perhaps post your MakeMKV log so we can see for sure. Very probably, this is standard seamless branching stuff. Here's an explanation of seamless branching: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=22903&p=94894#p94894

It looks like standard seamless branching stuff to me.

I assume you're talking about track 1, which is probably the Dolby TrueHD track. In the first rip, these are the AV sync messages I saw in the log the pertained to track 1.

Code: Select all

AV sync issues in I:/Video/Halloween Kills/Halloween Kills-FPL_MainFeature_t33.mkv
AV sync in 1 at 0:24:31.010 (0.625ms) : encountered overlapping frame, audio skew is +1.291ms

…
AV sync in 1 at 1:14:04.273 (0.833ms) : 1 frame(s) dropped to reduce audio skew to +0.166ms
…
AV sync in 1 at 1:36:07.218 (0.291ms) : encountered overlapping frame, audio skew is +1.041ms
AV sync in 1 at 1:36:07.220 (0.833ms) : 1 frame(s) dropped to reduce audio skew to +0.208ms
Do you hear an audio hiccup in these spots? Do you also hear it on a different player like VLC or MPV?

VLC plays fine. If I make the movie transcode in Plex, it plays fine. Use 5.1 audio track, its fine. Direct play (Atmos track) and at the timestamp av sync error, the audio is behind video for a few seconds for an almost 30 second duration. Very noticeable.
