Thanks, at least I have a confirmation and could direct my energy someplace else.
So looking for a new drive - is it still the case that all drives that officially support playback of UHD can't be used to RIP them? No-exceptions that anyone is aware of?
That was never the case pick a drive from the guide list linked below

The latest version of the SDFtool Flasher (v1.3.0) has a checkbox option to flash the boot loader with the main firmware to the drive (thanks @Billycar11 for letting me know this works). This is useful for the newer BP50NB40 with SVC: NB52.

It's also possible that other newer models may soon require this option. Anyway, we will all work it out together as we go!!
Cheers :D

What firmware do I use to flash LG BP50NB40, ver:1.03, NB52? I have downloaded the SDFtool Flasher v1.3.0, and the mk-firmware-pack-20200720.
I have run the read Firmware and created a dump file, and now I need to "WRITE Firmware"

Thank you for any help you can provide.

If you don't want to wait, I believe the steps are (using SDFtool Flasher v1.3.0):

1. Flash drive to BP50NB40 1.03-MK from the MK firmware pack.
2. For the next flash, check the box to also flash boot loader and select firmware BP60NB10 1.00-MK from the MK firmware pack.

Let me know if this works for you.

Edit:
If the above didn't work or you don't want to try it, the way Billy says works is below (using SDFtool Flasher v1.3.0):

1. Flash drive to BP50NB40 1.03-MK from the MK firmware pack.
2. Check the box to also flash boot loader and flash BP50NB40 1.03-MK again.
3. Now you can flash the drive to BP60NB10 1.00-MK from the MK firmware pack.

Is the updated guide not showing?
NB52 to > BP50NB40-NB50-1.03MK with enc > BP50NB40-NB50-1.03MK with bootloader/full flash > BP60NB10 1.02MK or 1.00MK

That how I did it not sure if the way you posted will work but will be good to know

I didn't see it. I'll have another look.

Edit:
Yep, found it, Billy. I'll also update the first post.

Hello, I just want to make sure I am flashing the correct firmware for a drive I’ve just purchased (archgon MD-8107-U3-AC-B). My goal is to be able to play/rip/write 4K blu-rays.

I downloaded the MK firmware pack and I’ve come across the firmware named:

HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-U100-3M01801-211910161036.bin

Is this the correct firmware for me? I’m using the SDFtool Flasher (v1.3.0). If I’m correct, I am supposed to select “WRITE Firmware”, select the .bin file I listed above, then click “START”.

If anyone can help, please let me know. I don’t want to brick my new drive by accident. Thanks!

Here is my full drive info:

Drive Information
OS device name: G:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: U100
Serial number: MO1L3UJ1757
Firmware date: 2119-10-16 10:36
Bus encryption flags: 1F

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible (with patched firmware)
Drive platform: MT1959
Harware support: Yes
Firmware support: No
Firmware type: Original (patched version available)
Firmware version: 0.U1003
DVD all regions: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw data read: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw metadata read: Possible (with patched firmware)
Unrestricted read speed: Possible (with patched firmware)

No disc inserted

Yes, you can use that one or any other BU40N firmware. Your steps are correct.

Thank you very much! 🙏

One last thing, out of all of the BU40N firmware options in the MK pack, is there one that is generally agreed upon as being the best, or does it not matter much?

It really depends on what software you use. I normally recommend BU40N 1.00 as it is compatible with the widest range of software. The MK versions generally only work with MakeMKV.

Thanks, I didn’t know that.

I’ve also been using this drive to rip CDs with iTunes on my MacBook Pro. Will DE_LG_BU40N_1.00 from the DE-firmware-pack allow me to continue doing that? (I will be using a windows PC to flash it)
