Hello,
I own an Asus BW-16D1HT drive, and I've purchased a set of UHD discs, which I haven't received yet, because they're still in the mail.
As I understand, the drive can not rip a UHD disc out of the box, if it's running firmware version 3.10, which mine is, but there schould be a method to downgrade it to a version that can. I have never tried a process like this before, so how can I do this? I'm using Windows on a labtop, and I'm using the drive through and sata to usb connection. Is it still possible this way?
Also, as a side note, what would happen if I tried to rip a UHD disc with the corrent firmware? Would it only rip some parts of the disc, or would it not be able to read the disc at all? I really am only interested in UHD discs because of the better audio, so if Make MKV could still read the audio, but just not the video part, I wouldn't need to downgrade at all.
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards:
Aksel Christoffersen

Guide linked below
You may or may not be able to flash it over USB see the known working USB adapters.
You won't be able to see a UHD disc at all untill flashed
About the audio most regular blurays already have lossless audio not much to gain except Atmos and dtsx and that's just repackaged truehd or dtsma with positional data

Re: Asus BW-16D1HT and UHD discs
Thank you for the reply, but I'm still quite confused.
Which firmware would I have to flash to the drive in order to be able to rip UHD discs? As I understand it, there exists a 3.10 MK version of the firmware to this drive, but does MK mean that it's UHD compatible, or would I have to flash a firmware from a completely other drive?
Regarding the audio, I was interested in the audio from the UHD discs because it seems they have 7.1 audio, whereas the BluRay versions only have 5.1, as I understand it.
Kind regards:
Aksel

If your still confused you can buy an automated flasher from me or Marty

Re: Asus BW-16D1HT and UHD discs
But what is an automated flasher? Is it some sorth of custom made method to flash the drive more easily?
I looked for the Asus BW-16D1HT in the guide, but all I could find is a mension of a firmware called 3.10 MK, which I guess is different from the normal 3.10, which my drive seems to be running now.

Just be aware you can do it all yourself with the info in the guide.
You don't need to use our flashers
Thanks,
Billy
