Are there a lot of those cropped dolby vision films? Are those films mostly from streaming services instead of theater/bluray discs?RESET_9999 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 2:47 pmThis has been discussed many times in this thread.... There's nothing we can do about it but since cropped content usually comes without lossless audio, I just use my C8 internal plex player with ARC to send the audio to my AVR.

yeah, movies and tv shows from streaming services. AppleTV+ and Amazon Prime crop all their content.deadchip12 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 2:55 pmAre there a lot of those cropped dolby vision films? Are those films mostly from streaming services instead of theater/bluray discs?

OK. Thanks a lot !
Any way to recode with added black bars maybe ? Pretty simple in general... Do you have any pointers to do it in this DV context?
Because, I am in fact in the same boat regarding these movies...normally all gravy with C9 internal player - I find the DV presentation slightly better on it than on the M9702 in fact - with eARC to HW-Q950T..except, of course, for this effing "file not recognized" issue after one launch.
Are you encountering this issue on the C8 as well with DV/DD+Atmos mp4's ?

you do what you want but muxing an IMAX DV with a non-IMAX video is a bad idea because the IMAX L1/L2 metadata contains values from DV analysis that includes IMAX area and this is something an L5 edit cannot fix.
see: https://slow.pics/c/5kVYmtO7
imax L1 metadata from Dolby analysis:
Bluray Remux L1 metadata from Dolby analysis:

Well, I'm not sure if it can be done with profile 5 content but with HDR10 base layer DV (P8) content , yes you can add the black bars with staxrip with some basic script I'm sure you can find somewhere on doom9. still re-encoding though.SteamyUncle wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 5:11 pmOK. I don't have any issue on the C8/plex with DD+ atmos via ARC. But I've been watching mostly TS files and not mp4. I know mp4 is very unstable on the Shield/plex.
Sorry for my English.

Hi people. I am new to this business. Tell me, is there an instruction on how to add a few additional tracks and subtitles to profile 5 web-dl in mp4 or mkv format to get web-dl to mp4? I'll be very grateful

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
maybe there are better ways nowadays but I used to use mp4box
Code: Select all
mp4box.exe -add X:\P5.DV.mp4#1 -add X:\P5.DV.mp4#2 -add X:\audio.mp4#audio:lang=fr-FR -add X:\subtitles.srt#subtitle:lang=fr-FR

Do you think it is better with ts on the x800m2?RESET_9999 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 6:53 pmWell, I'm not sure if it can be done with profile 5 content but with HDR10 base layer DV (P8) content , yes you can add the black bars with staxrip with some basic script I'm sure you can find somewhere on doom9. still re-encoding though.SteamyUncle wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 5:11 pmOK. TS playback is much better than MP4 on the x700, so yes I assume it's the same with the x800m2

Thanks!I was remuxing all dovi in mp4. It will be much faster directly in ts.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Yes, it looks slightly different via stick4k, but that's what I saw with other contents as well, not sure why.quietvoid wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 3:03 pmYou can try this sample: https://mega.nz/file/cY1gEZzQ#eJIRMpZ2X ... PaGtY_35gU
The eagle's beak looks noticeably better in the internal player compared to the Firestick for me.
Next step is probably to try figuring out what's happening and if it can be prevented.
Was this the 10.000 nits version or the 1000/4000 one?
On a different note, Stacey here mentioned again, that there is a setting (I guess in the RPU) with which the DoVi tonemapping can be turned off, do you know which one?
Here is a calibration pattern sample, that should be like it.
This way I guess we can create calibration samples from hdr10 ones.

I'm not sure what flags would actually disable tonemapping.
IIRC an empty profile 8 RPU like those created by 'generate' are tonemapping every detail, but usually with a dimmer APL.
We'll probably have to wait for the new disc, unless someone tries to ask Stacey how it works.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Anybody that can help me?
I am trying to accomplish the following :
What i would like to achieve with Dovi tool or any other is to download a WEB-DL from any source, take out the DV metadata and add it to the UHD remux so that those versions have DV too.
What i did so far are the following steps:
c:\Dolby-Vision-Tools\ffmpeg\bin\ffmpeg.exe -i "c:\temp\DV_WEB-DL.mkv" -c:v copy -vbsf hevc_mp4toannexb -f hevc c:\temp\DV.hevc
extracted the video from the UHD and named it HDR10.hevc
c:\Dolby-Vision-Tools\dovi_tool.exe -m 3 extract-rpu c:\temp\DV.hevc
made a edited.json file for the RPU
c:\Dolby-Vision-Tools\dovi_tool.exe editor -i c:\temp\RPU.bin -j c:\temp\edited.json --rpu-out c:\temp\RPU-edited.bin
c:\Dolby-Vision-Tools\dovi_tool.exe inject-rpu -i c:\temp\HDR10.hevc --rpu-in c:\temp\RPU-edited.bin
Lastly copied the HDR10.hevc file to the extracted contents of the UHD and used mkvtoolnix to make a new MKV
This one did not have the DV info.
What am i doing wrong?
Thanks again !
