Frozen and Plex - MVC file plays in 2D

#1 Post by tonymacprods » Mon Nov 22, 2021 9:20 pm

Hi the Frozen disc is presented with 3 options that appear to be the full movie, specifically

00800.mpls
00801.mpls
09802.mpls

all 35.5GB in size with the following info

Type: Video
Codec: Mpeg4 MVC High@L4.1/StereoHigh@L4.1
Resolution: 1920x1080
Aspect ratio: 16:9
Frame rate: 23.976 (24000/1001)

Makemkv is able to rip the video file however when played back via Plex on my NVIDIA shield (2017) it plays in 2D only. I suspect this is an issue with either Plex or the Shield. If I play the disc in my spinner it works in 3D without issue

Any ideas?

Change the Shield to 1080p and that should work, I have this issue with a 4k TV.

The Shield is not capable of playing 3D MVC files. You need a high-end Android player like Vero, Dune HD, or Zidoo to play 3D files.

I don't think "high-end Android" is required. There are many other players that are perfectly capable of playing MVC.
Outdated types are dirt cheap. Buddy of mine got a Mede8er 600X3D (no 4K) in good condition for 5 euros at some thriftstore. Already having one, he just couldn't say no.
