ASUS BW-16D1HT Firmware 3.10

Post by Jim79 » Fri Nov 12, 2021 6:44 pm

Hello all,

The new kid on the block here and I need some help. I have just purchased the ASUS BW-16D1HT with a view to rip my 4k collection to use in Plex. I have the drive installed in an OWC Mercury Pro external enclosure as I'm using it with a Mac Mini (2012) as my Plex server. Plex runs perfectly on it.
This is what I get when It tries to read the UHD

Drive Information
Manufacturer: ASUS

Product: BW-16D1HT

Revision: 3.10

Serial number: KL7K9OI2815

Firmware date: 2119-01-04 10:14

Bus encryption flags: 1F

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible (with patched firmware)
Drive platform: MT1959
Harware support: Yes
Firmware support: No
Firmware type: Original (patched version available)
Firmware version: 3.10
DVD all regions: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw data read: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw metadata read: Possible (with patched firmware)
Unrestricted read speed: Possible (with patched firmware)

So my question is
1. Can I actually update the firmware so that it works, if so where do get it from and how do I install it
2. Is the issue the External enclosure if so which one should I purchase
3. Is the MAC the issue due to its age

Any help is appreciated greatly

See guide below.

No case is fine

No Mac is fine you can flash It just not as easy as windows

If you have a windows pc get an automated flasher if you don't want to do it yourself

Is it something that can be done on a MAC or is it too difficult? I would have to get my hands on a windows device.

Also what is an automated flasher

How easy is all this to do myself or am i best getting someone more technical to do it.

That's the post that I remember.

Flashing an optical drive on a Mac requires that you enter a command into Terminal. I wouldn't describe it as hard, but it isn't as simple as point & click. On Windows there are some simple point and click things that'll flash your drive.
