Do I NEED a USB Enclosure

All,

I'm a longtime user of makemkv, looking to update my setup so I can backup my UHDs. I am planning to get a LG WH14NS40 drive and flash it myself using the tools listed in the stickied thread. I already have a moderately powerful PC with physical space and Mobo hookups to connect the drive.

My question is if I need a USB enclosure or can I just install the new drive to my desktop? Is there some advantage to using a USB enclosure?

Appreciate any help / comments.
