Drive 1: Swapping SATA ports fixed the problem. Flashed to 1.02.
Neither drive will flash to 1.00. It says "Programming flash - 100% Operation finished - Done successfully" but still showing 1.02. Well at least I can keep ripping now. Any ideas on getting to 1.00?
ok great so it was the sata controller

Oh boy, I'd have to do some digging on this. Both ports are on the motherboard in the same location with all the other SATA ports. I'd have to dig deeper to figure out if my motherboard actually has more than one SATA controller built-in and which ports are which.
There may be other variables than the SATA controller. I wouldn't know what they are though.

Look at your MB manual or search for manual online.
Cheers

Manual says:
2 SATA 6Gb/s ports (SATA1~2) by Intel® Z68
2 SATA 6Gb/s ports (SATA7~8) by Marvell® 9128 (Z68A-GD65 (G3))
4 SATA 3Gb/s ports (SATA3~6) by Intel® Z68
The two cables I swapped were in ports 2 and 8. Sorry but I can't remember which one worked and which didn't.

Ok that's what I figured it must be the Marvell ports that didn't work I know the Intel 6x series sata controller works for flashing used it for a bit with my 2500k
Thanks for the info
