Unable to rip Blu-ray's with LG BH10LS30

Post by cbrad » Tue Jan 25, 2011 10:37 pm

Hi there

I can rip DVD's fine, but have tried 3 blu-ray's and they all failed to open with very similar errors. This is using an LG BH10LS30 in an external enclosure, connected via USB to a MacBook Pro.

Debug log.

A generic drive SCSI error. It might[/b] the problem with enclosure. The next program version is very likely to correct this problem.

Thanks for the quick response. Is there a planned release timeframe for the next version? Is there a stable nightly build that I could try?

Mike usually does not say... but probably in the near future *weeks*
cbrad wrote:Is there a stable nightly build that I could try?
This is an oxymoron, and no. The beta builds that are released to us are as essentially the only 'stable nightly'.

Hi,

I have a similar issue, although both my drive and particular error message are different. I had an obsolete Sony BDP-S300 BD player. I thought I can utilise it's internal ATAPI drive, Sony BPD-100 as an external BD drive for ripping. Can it be that I'v been too naive? That despite similar exterior, this drive is not suitable as external BD drive? I get the unable to get VID error as can be seen in attached logs. I've tried all OS and direct methods combined with all workaround algorithms. All to no avail.
I've also tested 2 different USB to ATA bridges, results don't depend on the interface.

Code: Select all

Cypress AT2LP RC42:

  Capacity:	8,88 GB (8 877 899 776 bytes)
  Removable Media:	Yes
  Detachable Drive:	Yes
  BSD Name:	disk5

  Vendor ID:	0x04b4 (Cypress Semiconductor)
  Version: 4.20
  Serial Number:	5000000000016888
  Speed:	Up to 480 Mb/sec
  Location ID:	0x26200000
  Current Available (mA):	500
  Current Required (mA):	2
  Media Name:	SONY_BRAVIA_3D_DEMO
  Partition Map Type:	Unknown
  S.M.A.R.T. status:	Not Supported

USB to ATA/ATAPI Bridge:

  Capacity:	8,88 GB (8 877 899 776 bytes)
  Removable Media:	Yes
  Detachable Drive:	Yes
  BSD Name:	disk1
  Product ID:	0x2338
Vendor ID:	0x152d (JMicron Technology Corp.)
  Version: 1.00
  Serial Number:	000000000000
  Speed:	Up to 480 Mb/sec
  Manufacturer:	JMicron
  Location ID:	0x26200000
  Current Available (mA):	500
  Current Required (mA):	2
  Media Name:	SONY_BRAVIA_3D_DEMO
  Partition Map Type:	Unknown
  S.M.A.R.T. status:	Not Supported
The BDP-S300 firmware was updated to latest version before opening it up. That ought include the drive firmware update.
I've also searched the net for data about BPD-100 drive, but neither technical details nor it's usage patterns outside the BDP-S300 machine could be found.
Can this drive be used with makeMKV or shall I look for a specially designed computer drive?

MakeMKV doesn't support such drives. It might in future but no promises.

OK, I see. In what ways is this drive different from a "normal" ATAPI/SATA BD-drive for computer use?

I have ripped 6 Blurays so far using my LG BH10LS30 on OS X Snow Leopard.
No problems. MakeMKV is the only software able to rip all bluray discs on my Mac, other ripping softwares will fail on some discs.

Have you installed the drive internally or are you using it externally (if so how)?

I have just installed v1.6.4 and unfortunately I still can't rip Blu-rays.

Thanks for posting the log, the error is new. Please try the following: with MakeMKV not running, insert a BD disc into drive. Only after disc shows up on desktop, launch MakeMKV and see if anything changes.

The first time I did that, the log was slightly different (line 5 is new).

When I close MakeMKV the disc has disappeared from the finder and I can't eject it. I need to turn the external enclosure off and on again to eject.

The first 3 messages, you can't get them in 1.6.5 - the bug was fixed. Is it correct? For the rest, please update DASPI to 1.2 and see if it changes anything.
