Bought a LG BU40N, can't find any "SVC NS50+" label.
Noob here.
As the title says can't find anything about a SVC label on the drive. Does that mean I'm screwed? Or am i just blind? Thanks for the help!

BU40N's are a different beast and do not have the SVC NS50+ requirement. Looking at the pic, your's looks good. Has 1.04 (encrypted) firmware, so use "enc" when flashing the very first time.
Cheers

Nah, you should be ok to flash it. I've flashed plenty of those (with NB40). The main thing with those is that the manufacture date is 2020.OldMovieFan wrote: ↑Sun Aug 27, 2023 3:58 pmI have an LG BP50NB40 and it says:

Okay, thanks. Good news then.
I have looked at the guide and saw this:
Presumably at that point it will work? If not then what does the rest mean?
I watched this video, which gave me some idea:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyQV1aPlbow
And just to make it more complicated, mine doesn't have a drive letter because it's a USB drive. The 'F' assignation doesn't show in Windows Explorer unless there's a disc in it.
This is what my MakeMKV opening page looks like:
I have looked at the guide and saw this:
I don't really understand it. It's not self-explanatory. Does this mean I have to flash it more than once to go from BP50NB40 to BP50NB40-NB50-1.03MK and then flash it again to get to BP60NB10 1.02MK or 1.00MK?BP50NB40 to > BP50NB40-NB50-1.03MK then to > BP60NB10 1.02MK or 1.00MK

if using command line add "full" after rawflash

Download SDFTool Flasher and the firmware pack if you haven't already. Use SDFtool Flasher and follow the below steps:OldMovieFan wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2023 3:05 amOkay, thanks. Good news then.

1. Flash BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK
2. Now try flashing BU40N 1.00. If the drive shows as BU40N 1.00, your done. If it doesn't, perform the below step:
3. In SDFtool Flasher, select the Recovery option. In the popup window, select the BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK that you flashed in step 1. In the firmware selection dropdown box, select BU40N 1.00. Press START to flash. This does take a minute so just wait for SDFTool Flasher to say "Ready...", then you are done.
Cheers

Re: Bought a LG BU40N, can't find any "SVC NS50+" label.
Thanks so much for that.
I tried first with a 4K of '1917'. It initially took a very long time to read the disc and I though it was probably a bad sign because that's usually what happens when it can't read a Blu-ray. Eventually it could read the disc but there were a lot of reports of 'Incompatible media'. So it looks like the flash worked but although the drive was able to read the disc, it couldn't open it.
Many thanks for making this so simple.

Before responding further, I tried a different disc, this time 'Batman Begins' and it was able to open and read it. Ripped directly to a NAS over WiFi, that 139 minute 75GB movie took about 55:30.Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE - KEY NOT PRESENT' occurred while issuing SCSI command A30..00200740100720..0797124CB9213C70BC2B64F9810E23A1324 to device 'SPTI:\Device\CdRom0'

Just an update: at third attempt, I can now rip '1917'.
Must have been a dirty disc or something.
Thanks again.

Yes, it happens quite often with UHD discs. Just give them a good clean before trying to rip again.OldMovieFan wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2023 10:59 amJust an update: at third attempt, I can now rip '1917'.
