MKV failing on a specific PC (that used to work)

Post by ddeconin@gmail.com » Tue Aug 17, 2021 9:58 am

Hi,

I've got a very strange issue with my main PC.

I've been using Makemkv on my main pc for quite a while without issues copying my 4K UHD disc collection from an external drive.
Some months ago , makemkv started failing on all disk with a similar error and I have not been able to get it to fully copy a disk since...

At some point during the read the drive light stops flashing, Output Size remains constant (so nothing is read anymore) and the remaining time starts creeping up.
Then a bit later, makemkv reports :

s=9 n=0 o=48372307968
s=10 n=0 o=48372307968
005003:0000 Failed to save title 4 to file C:/Users/I063836/Videos/2001- A Space Odyssey/2001- A Space Odyssey_t04.mkv
Encountered 32 unclassified errors
error=0xC000000E count=11 name=OS error - A device which does not exist was specified
error=0xC000009D count=21 name=OS error - STATUS_DEVICE_NOT_CONNECTED

and windows reports 'USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned'.

However, I have been able to use makemkv with these same disks & the same external drive on a few other PC's and a mac and there the copy works fine each time.

So its just this specific PC where it stopped working for all discs suddenly but no clue what goes wrong...

Drive is turning off because of not enough power use both connectors if it has a y cable
Buy a UHD drive from the guide and how to video maker: https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 20&t=17831

Im using a drive in an external enclosure with an external power brick.
The weird part is:
- The drive used to work fine with the pc until a little while ago
- The drive still works with another pc laptop and a mac
Since it still looks to be power related replacing the power brick of the enclosure is next on my list...

I see thought this was a USB powered drive what I would try next is make a bootable clean os and see if it happens to rule out a messed up os install

Corporate pc, so not easy to do. However, after fiddling with lots of usb driver settings etc I got things more stable by setting
0=99;U1=-;U2=-;U3=-;B1=-;B2=-; in the registry for the speed settings.
