I am getting faster read speeds than usual, in my USB powered Bluray drive

Before anything else, I must remark that I am not having either any ripping or reading error, when the drive reaches those speeds.

I bought and external USB DVD/Bluray drive in Ebay, back in 2015. The seller told me that he manually build it (or that is what I understood). These are its characteristics.
Drive Information

Manufacturer: hp
Product: BDDVDRW CT40N
Revision: BC00
Serial number: KVCBBED2502
Firmware date: 2011-11-04 11:00:00
Bus encryption flags: 1A
Highest AACS version: 31
He told me that the maximum read speed it could get, would be of 2x. And that is the maximum speed I have always got, everytime I have used. Until now.

Recently, I have formatted my computer and started ripping some of my originals. And everytime, the speeds I get are between 2x and 5x. As I told before, I am not getting either reading or ripping errors, and the resulting files don´t look like that have any kind of artifacts or visual errors. But the fact that an USB powered drive can reach such speeds, intrigues me. Did any of you have similar experiences? Thanks. :D
