How do I get ASUS BW-16D1X-U

Completely new to this. I just bought an ASUS BW-161D1X-U and I want to rip my Blu rays and DVDs. It seems this might not have been the right choice of drives. I can not get it to work on an older DVD and I can't seem to get it to flash at all. Please help.

Run MakeMKV. What does it say about your drive in the Info section of the screen?

There are at least two different drives used in the BW-16D1X-U. One of them is NOT UHD-capable, the other is. MakeMKV can identify them without you having to open the case and look.
