Hello,
I have an old WH14NS40 from October 2012 (originally on firmware 1.00). I was on official 1.03, when a DVD/BluRay disc was inserted it would just spin a never read the disc in MAKEMKV. I figured it would not hurt to update the firmware to the latest version, so I went out to the LG site and downloaded 1.05 and flashed that.

Now the drive will just open and close. When a disc is inserted it just reads no disc in MakeMkv.
Should official 1.05 not be flashed to every WH14NS40?

2012 or 2021? A 2012 drive won't work with firmware intended for a new drive.

The new one should say it was built in the last 6 months, so it will be capable of UHD. And compatible with flashing with new firmware.
Any drive built prior to the end of 2015 is not going to be capable of UHD ripping at the hardware level. The original firmware, though, may be capable of LibreDrive control, and there is probably a way to get it back to the original... just more difficult than most people want to deal with.

More difficult looks right, from what I saw that was the case. $44 for a new one on prime wasn't bad, old one was 9 years old so it paid its due.Woodstock wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 1:39 pmThe new one should say it was built in the last 6 months, so it will be capable of UHD.
