Will your X700 also play the DV .mkv file with lossless HD audio tracks (DTS-HD or DTS:X or Atmos) via network share? Or this procedure you mentioned only works of connected USB drive?Epedemic wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 2:28 pmOf course all my backups are .mkv, as i thought that would be the golden solution... Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Pr. my understanding it will not, but i am not totally updated on the subject, as this solution is good enough for me, given i don't have THAT many DV movies.liamtoh1 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 13, 2021 11:01 pmWill your X700 also play the DV .mkv file with lossless HD audio tracks (DTS-HD or DTS:X or Atmos) via network share? Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Thanks for your response. I have just recently ventured into ripping my 4K UHD movies and have a DV enabled TV but older (but working without any issues X800) and still exploring my options for DV playback device. Currently nVidia Shield Pro is my top choice but since it is already 2 year old since release I will wait to see what features will be added to its next iteration and potentially get the 2019 version for less financial outlay.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Yeah, i have had a shield pro 2019 since launch as well, and it does pretty much everything very well. But once people here told me about the red push issue, i started noticing it haha. Fingers crossed it will be fixed eventually (and less likely: add FEL support) Probably wouldn't have bought the x700 at full price though. Also it is possible that there will be a shield 2021 refresh, possibly even with a fresh chipset. We will see.liamtoh1 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 13, 2021 11:16 pmThanks for your response. Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Hey guys, been having some trouble getting certain DV files to playback on my Sony XG9505 and I think I have identified the issue as being that my TV can't play profile 7 FEL but can play MEL?
I done some testing and I got the following results, which confused me at first as it seemed like since all the files were the same either all would play in DV or none should, but then stumbled onto a list on I think blu-ray.com identifying which releases were FEL and MEL and it seemed to line up with what I could and couldn't play.
Am I right in saying that if I extract the HEVC stream from my rips I can use dovi_tool by quietvoid (dovi_tool -m 1 convert filename.hevc) to essentially convert the FEL DV into MEL (which in reality is just removing the enhancement layer?) and then mux the HEVC file back into the MKV I should have a working MEL release with HDR10 fallback? Since the MEL includes dynamic metadata, it should also still be an improvement over just HDR10, but not quite as good as full FEL playback?

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Guys i tried to read into that but couldnt find answer.
Is it possible to take Bluray profile 7 DTDL and convert it into STSL profile 5 cause it seems that my LG CX is only capable of playing this instance of DV files. I tested and its working with rips from ex. Disney+ Falcon and Winter Soldier DV file from rarbg which is indeed STSL profile 5.
Thank you so much

Convert to Profile 8.
You will not lose that much with dropped FEL.
Possible, but it will be p5 with YCbCr colorspace and TV dovi decoder may expect ITP in p5. In this case colors will be very wrongSnickers333 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 10:23 pmIs it possible to take Bluray profile 7 DTDL and convert it into STSL profile 5 cause it seems that my LG CX is only capable of playing this instance of DV files.

Profile 8.1 not working properly after conversion. It is not read at all. The funny thing is that dual track dual layer MEL movies using original mp4 method are working entirely correctly. (Tested on Casino Royale UHDBD rip).
But when the movie is FEL and I use the same mp4 method on that. For instance Game of Thrones episode, then it is read but its darkened very much which is definitely not correct. So i am looking for a way to convert FEL to MEL without changing to profile 8.1. Just leave it at profile 7 or convert to profile 5 which are both read as long as its MEL.
Best Regards

What are the benefits of profile 8.1 instead of profile 7 MEL?lexyz wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 5:13 amConvert to Profile 8.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
It's the same. P7 MEL is used for Blu-Ray disks and P8 is pretty much dead. Dolby Labs only recommend using P5 for streaming services. P8 is used only by MakeMKV members and Torrent users I guess. The community here collectively attempted to use the P5, but we lack the Dolby's proprietary tools for it. But we were able to come up with methods and create tools to reproduce a correct P8 videos, which is the same as P7 MEL. Pretty much credit goes to user yusescope. Has not shown any activity latelyjaimbo wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 3:38 pmWhat are the benefits of profile 8.1 instead of profile 7 MEL?lexyz wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 5:13 amConvert to Profile 8.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Some dovi decoders don't work with P7 but work with P8.1
P8.1 is almost equal to P7 only difference is VUI Chroma Sample Location value. For P7 it's always 2, for P8.1 can be 2 or 0.
That's why P8.1 is the best option to convert UHD BR P7
Sadly, not all devices capable to play P8.1. Like 2016-2018 Bravias.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Fire TV 4k HDR devices and CCwGTV do support both profiles. The ladder even supports the FEL P7 too! Too bad both devices are limited to lossless audio. It does not bother me since I don't own a capable speaker system and receiver anyway.lexyz wrote: ↑Sun Jun 20, 2021 8:46 amSome dovi decoders don't work with P7 but work with P8.1

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I bought the sony x700 but i am disappointed with the subtitles.
It supports the ass format (SubStation Alpha), but the style doesn't change, as if using the srt format. Subtitles are too bright.
any alternative? I would like to get the chromecast, but i read that the refresh rate is fixed

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
After wasting my whole day today, I wanted to learn what the maximum capability of my players were using dolby vision, here are the results! I hope this helps somebody reading to save them time. (These are all dvhe.07.06 BL + EL + RPU apart from the dual track dual layer ones )
These are the results I'm getting for a dolby vision movie on the Oppo 203:
ISO: Dolby vision and atmos
Blue ray Folder: Dolby vision and atmos
.mkv: HDR and atmos
original .m2ts file: HDR and atmos
.m2ts single track dual layer: dolby vision and atmos
.ts dual track dual layer: dolby vision and atmos
.ts single track dual layer: dolby vision and atmos
.mp4 dvhe.05.06 single track BL+RPU : dolby vision + lossy atmos
.mp4 dual track dual layer (version 7 dvhe): vision and atmos
These are the results I'm getting on Nvidia shield Pro:
On plex:
.ts single track dual layer: dolby vision and atmos (no pgs subtitles working AFAIK)
.mkv: dolby vision and atmos ( no pgs subtitles working)
.mp4 dvhe.05.06 single track BL+RPU : dolby vision + lossy atmos
.m2ts single track dual layer: dolby vision and atmos
.mp4 dual track dual layer: HDR atmos
On Kodi 19 for nerds:
.mkv dolby vision + atmos
.m2ts dual layer double track: HDR + atmos
.m2ts dual layer single track: HDR + atmos
.ts dual layer single track: HDR + atmos
.ts dual layer dual track: HDR + atmos
.mp4 dvhe.05.06 single track BL+RPU : dolby vision + lossy atmos
.mp4 dolby vision 7: dual track dual layer: HDR + atmos
In conclusion, I have no idea what common file to use to convert my dolby vision movies to. Ideally, I want them to be .mkv as it's just convenient but unfortunately the oppo 203 can't play it in dolby vision. Any ideas? thanks:)

Kind of surprised about the Kodi results. Why do you need both Plex and Kodi though?
