No DVDs working - "Error 'Scsi error - Illegal Request..."

Post by Saimurai »

Ok so reading through the forum and can't seem to find an answer. None of my DVDs are working. So its not a cleaning/damaged DVD issue here. Any help appreciated. Tried writing to a USB instead of the hard drive, no difference. Happens with all regions of DVDs even though it says "Change drive region or update drive firmware". Can't find driver updates for it either.

Here's the log for a DVD that gets further than any other:

Did you ever figure out what was going wrong? Curious if you solved it.

I haven't ripped a DVD for some time and this morning tried and am getting the same error.

If NO DVDs are working, it's usually the drive, but more likely you have disks that are smudged or scratched. Have you tried cleaning them?

Hi,
I am having similar issues with ripping DVD and Blu Ray. The application issues the following error.

MakeMKV v1.16.3 darwin(x64-release) started
Optical drive "BD-RE TSSTcorp BDDVDW SN-506BB SB00d" opened in OS access mode.
Error 'Scsi error - NOT READY:LOGICAL UNIT IS IN PROCESS OF BECOMING READY' occurred while reading 'BD-RE TSSTcorp BDDVDW SN-506BB SB00' at offset '655360'
udf: UDF mount: disc not properly formatted or damaged disc (rootdirs failing)
Error 'Scsi error - NOT READY:LOGICAL UNIT IS IN PROCESS OF BECOMING READY' occurred while reading 'BD-RE TSSTcorp BDDVDW SN-506BB SB00' at offset '32768'
Failed to open disc
This has recently started after several Apple MacOS 11.5 Beta upgrades. I doubt the drive is at fault as I can still RIP Audio CD's without issue.

all help gratefully received.

Hi My Drive is fine as I can read and write both CD and DVD or Blu Ray (Data) from MacOS finder. I'm still at a loss as the Blu Ray being read by MakeMKV is a new disc only played once, it played fine on the Denon Pro Blu ray player.

On Big Sur (and maybe Catalina) one needs to grant MakeMKV access to removable volumes in System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Privacy -> File and Folders.
