Hey guys, after reading lots and lots of pages from this thread, i need your confirmation. I want to buy an Lg oled and I'm considering c9 or cx ( in poland at the time this is about 70 dollar difference ). Am I right saying that if i want to be able to play FEL Dolby vision from bluray versions i have to buy the c9, because the cx can't play this dual layer format and is only limited to MEL Dolby vision ? Thanks. :)
Yes, you are right.
Also, cx can't play dts audio.

Guys, I have just made 2 mp4 files. One is first episode of Game of thrones in Dolby Vision FEL. Second is The invisible Man also in Dolby Vision. I made those files using original mp4muxer method - extracted base layer and enchancement layer .hevc files and merging them to make DTDL .mp4 files and here is the thing. My Lg CX when playing The invisible Man throws out an error something like couldnt recognise file, but then when i tried playing game of thrones episode it plays just fine !! recognizing Dolby Vision icon in the corner. Any idea why is that ? Maybe it's some sort of securing from playing longer files in Dolby vision ( just a guess ).

Okay then, I guess the MKV as it came out of MakeMKV is as good as the one processed with MKVToolNix, as the DV data is not altered. I'm not planning on converting to other DV profiles.
Actually, this is not true for the latest MKVToolNix version: https://gitlab.com/mbunkus/mkvtoolnix/-/issues/3093
Just a heads up, users in other forums reported that MKVs created with versions 56.0.0 and 56.1.0 without the program argument

Code: Select all

--engage dont_normalize_parameter_sets
do not work in some players, and re-muxing with a lower version or the program arguments mentioned in the linked issue does not work.
Thank you very much for this information btw. I am now using MKVToolNix v55.0.0 for muxing DV files. I don't really understand why the MKVToolNix dev does not release a hotfix which disables the mentioned argument by default. I am pretty sure it does more harm than good for most users (it was introduced only for fixing edge-case problems when joining video files).

You're welcome! You can also use the new version v57 released two days ago. The author fixed many HEVC issues, including the DV header issue causing the bug introduced in v56.

On most movies the Zidoo Z9X will do you fine, if you absolutely feel you need full FEL then Ugoos am6+ with patched Kodi, but it is a real flaky box tbh.
Ugoos released a new firmware today (https://ugoos.com/rc-firmware-update-v0 ... -x3-models), with video codec and stability fixes.
Might be worth checking out. I hope this update is a sign that the rumors about the abandonment of the AM6 are not true.

I've tested the Ugoos AM6 Plus media player (Amlogic S922X-J), and it seems, the internal player correctly processing the Full Enhancement Layer from DTDL mp4 file!

I'm tried with Kodi 19 custom build and working same with the P7 STDL mkv too!
Here , with movieayer ugoos am6 plus is sending 1080p to the tv with dtdl mp4 . Cheked with hidden menu on lgb6 (pressing 5times ‘’1’’ on chanel tuning menu)

OK, dual track MP4 plays fine through the internal player with FEL so it must be a Kodi issue it not playing smoothly.
Please check if it is outputting in 1080p

Life has been going too good, so decided to check out the AM6+ v0.4.1 "RC" firmware even though it's very late. My only use case is playing FEL mkv with the special Kodi.

Still random whether a media file plays or not? CHECK
Video jumps forward 30-40 seconds and stutters? CHECK
Have to mash on the power button half the time you try to stop playing? CHECK

Seems 0.4.1 won't fix the issues we have with FEL. :(

Is there someone who tryed the new Dune HD Real Vision 4K ? https://www.dune-hd.com/products/dune-hd-real-vision-4k

It seems to be the long awaited product ...
Playback of Dolby Vision Blu-ray images

The media player supports direct playback of full Blu-ray disc images (BMDV and ISO) in Dolby Vision format (MEL and FEL), even when using full Blu-ray menu. The extended Dolby Vision information is used and transmitted to the TV to improve the picture quality. This is possible due to the unique video playback and output engine created by Dune HD. Other RTD1619DR-based media players do not support this. Dune HD media players are the only hybrid network media players in the world that combine support for Dolby Vision Blu-ray disc images with support for Internet video services and Android applications in one device.

Widest support for Dolby Vision file formats

Dolby Vision is supported for all popular file formats (BDMV, BD ISO, MKV, MP4, TS, M2TS). All popular Dolby Vision profiles (P4, P5, P7 MEL and FEL, P8) are supported. The media player supports the largest number of variations of Dolby Vision file formats of any other media player.

Pretty sure there's no difference between all the other existing Realtek 1619DR based products out there. Dune has done this in the past in that when they mention "FEL support", they don't actually mean they utilize data from the FEL. It just means that the device can safely ignore the FEL, apply the DV RPU data directly onto the BL, and playback FEL content without issue (just like the Shield, Zidoo Z9X, and couple other Dune players). There's likely a hardware limitation to the Realtek SOCs that prevents full FEL support.

No HDMI 2.1, same price as Shield Pro...

Can somebody say if it support FEL by actually playing back the data?
Sony X700 -> Onkyo TX-RZ830 -> LG C8

Anyone know what would cause FF/RW to work on the Sony X700 playing an m2ts dvhe.07 FEL file from USB that's 2mins long, but not on a file that's 3hrs long?
