That pretty much leaves me with the option of the X700... Correct?
Also, if i go down this path: is it possible to convert my .mkv library (with DV) back to bdmv folder structure, or do i need to rerip (or... ew... play discs)?
To answer your question, you will have to use Sony X700. I wish Chromecast with Google TV did support the lossless audio, it would have been an ultimate streaming player! Have you tried importing the MKV files in Tsmuxer and demuxing from there?

Basically the firmware has been stolen, cracked, leaked - rumours are the dev team have fallen out with each other and support going forward might not be forthcoming, in other words they may abandon the box and put development into a new box instead.Low Winter Sun wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 9:25 pmI'm reading elsewhere that the Ugoos AM6 Plus can play FEL; why is it DOA? I don't know what's expensive or complicated about X700... $180 last I checked, just use the Tsmuxer from a Bluray rip structure. Of course it's not as straightforward with pirated MKVs, but still doable. There really 1. isn't that much FEL DV content 2. worth watching all of it. Just buy the few titles you really want to rewatch. Or stream with MEL.
Also if you think Bluray and 4K Bluray are going away for a 10-20Mbit web stream you are delusional.

I have studied this topic (and many other forums) regarding Dolby Vision capable media players, and was about to give up on DV... but it seems that multiple users recently had luck with the newest Zidoo Z9X firmware (6.2.5). Allegedly, this version improves DV compatibility (see also http://forum.zidoo.tv/index.php?threads ... 2-5.81090/, the OP was able to play all DV movies, with proper forward/rewind support):
I almost bought the Ugoos AM6 Plus, and refrained from doing so because of the issues reported here. Maybe this player can finally do what we want? Unfortunately I wasn't able to find out whether it works properly with Plex and DV, but after reading the reports I'm willing to take the risk. Anybody here having luck with this player? Maybe even some experience with the Plex app?

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
The Zidoo Z9X "plays" FEL the same way that the Nvidia Shield 2019 "plays" FEL, which is that it plays successfully in Dolby Vision and uses the RPU for dynamic metadata, but the EL is ignored. Doesn't seem to have the red push issue that the Nvidia Shield 2019 does though.ultrahorst wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 12:55 pmI have studied this topic (and many other forums) regarding Dolby Vision capable media players, and was about to give up on DV... but it seems that multiple users recently had luck with the newest Zidoo Z9X firmware (6.2.5). Check eBay for Sony X700, you should be able to find plenty of used ones for less than $100. You are absolutely right about the lack of FEL content. Correct me if I am wrong, there is currently two studios producing FEL 4K DV. One is Paramount and the second one is Universal. I do exactly what you are saying. I go with MKV for MEL, for the movies I really care I go FEL Blu-Ray structure on my Sony X700.bgalakazam wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 11:58 amI don't know what's expensive or complicated about X700... $180 last I checked, just use the Tsmuxer from a Bluray rip structure. FEL DV is way ahead of it's time. Modern TVs barely support 10-bit color, forget about 12-bit lol.
DV and HDR format is gonna change a lot. And I won't been surprised if Dolby pushes a different profile like P7 but single track and single layer with 12-bit color. And sooner or later physical media will fade away and completely replaced by streaming. Don't forget, people who buy psychical media are minority.

Can someone with Google Chromecast test a new update? Google just pushed a new software update, which is supposed to fix a refresh rate and enhance audio and video handling. Thank you!

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I've been working to mux my own mp4 with DV for my LG CX (via usb). I've tried using both yusecope's tool, UsEac3To, and tsmuxer to remove the base layer and enhanced layer, then use mp4muxer to make the mp4 with ac3. The movies play and the sound is good but the lower light scenes are way too dark. Older movies seem to work better with little to no problems. Spiderman Far From Home looked 95% great with the exception of one or two dark scenes. I keep testing with Rocketman. A lot of the scenes are so dark with my DV files that the entire background is black. Here's a comparison on my CX with Rocketman DV and HDR. Any thoughts on what's going wrong?

Google, Netflix, Prime have no interest in frame rate matching, it won’t happen on the CCwGTV.mulucy wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 8:19 pmmulucy wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 2:06 pmCan someone with Google Chromecast test a new update? Out of curiosity, why do you say that? You'd think they'd be interested in having as good a presentation as reasonably possible for their service. Well, maybe not Amazon (I think their UI on all their products is a dumpster fire). But I would think frame rate matching is moving into the table stakes category of things for new devices that plug into an HDMI port on a TV. Are their other forces at play pushing in the opposite direction?DaMacFunkin wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 5:43 amGoogle, Netflix, Prime have no interest in frame rate matching, it won’t happen on the CCwGTV.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I had a chance to buy one and test it, packed it, and going to return it ASAP. Can confirm the lack of frame rate matching, kind of a big deal for me since I watch the mix of European content with some US channels. Can also confirm undocumented support for FEL DV, which works fine. I noticed some minor stability issues when you are skipping or rewinding, related to a black screen with sound only and no picture, but then it catches up with the playback. Chapters worked well with FEL ( some lags here and there, not perfect). SL DV files worked better with no hiccups. One of the main issues I encountered using Vizio ( my bedroom TCL 6-series did not have this problem ) is the playback was getting stuck whatever HDR format was used previously, either it was stuck at HDR10 or Dolby Vision. You can manually change the display settings and push SDR or restart under the system settings. Overall, it felt like a half-baked product with a laggy UI. It still needs some more development to polish the UI and make it more stable. Also, Disney Plus does not support DV if I am not mistaken, FYI.DaMacFunkin wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 5:43 amGoogle, Netflix, Prime have no interest in frame rate matching, it won’t happen on the CCwGTV.mulucy wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 8:19 pmmulucy wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 2:06 pmCan someone with Google Chromecast test a new update? No matter what device I use or try, I find myself going back to Fire TV Stick 4K for convenience sake ( this small thing is a tank! It's so stable ). And if I want to watch movies with FEL and lossless sound, I just go with Sony X700. Someone also mentioned a firmware update for the Zidoo Z9X. It now pretty much supports all the formats and disks with DV except FEL playback ( it does play FEL but like Nvidia Shield with no Red push ). So it could be a great addition to a home theater setup if you care about an all-in-one streaming box ( BTW, the Blur-Ray menu is not supported on disks with DV )

Don't worry about 12 bit color. Your TV can't handle it anyway. According to this guy, we haven't even reached the potential of 10 bit yet.

Hi I have the Nvidia Shield, they have a beta frame match option and an unofficial frame rate app which as now fallen out of development, the reason this has never got out of beta is Amazon don’t support it, Netflix used to support it but now it has come a convoluted mess.dcoke22 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 5:27 pmOut of curiosity, why do you say that? The Nvidia devs are constantly told from the big streaming services that consumer research shows the average person doesn’t even register dropped frames or sped up playback, but they do register black screens every time they change stream/ exit to menu / play a trailer - the constant black re-synch screen on a streaming service is the biggest complaint by Joe bloggs on services that have supported it or attempted to support it that’s why your nicely consumer priced CCwGTV won’t push for support.
