not seeing all optical drives
not seeing all optical drives
Hello --- in addition to the internal drive on my laptop I also have others connected via usb3 ports. The windows "dev manager" "sees" all the drives, but when I start up makemkv one of the drives is not in the list of "sources" -- is there a way to debug this an find out why all the optional drives in the "source" list? Thanks
Re: not seeing all optical drives
Hello -- as it turns out the drive not seen by Makemkv is
SlimtypeDVD A DS8A1H
This (slim) portable drive that connect to the computer via usb3 port

Re: not seeing all optical drives
The question is, does Windows consider it an optical disk? Or does Windows consider it a "removable drive" and is blocking access to it because of the "ransomware protection" introduced in 2019?

Re: not seeing all optical drives
umm ... not aware of that distinction --- how can I find out how its connected?
its listed as a usb cd/rom device now
its listed as a usb cd/rom device now
Re: not seeing all optical drives
this is very weird --- I connected the (external) drive to another computer, and on that one too makemkv did not see the drive
Re: not seeing all optical drives
If Windows thinks it is only a CD drive, then it doesn't surprise me that MakeMKV doesn't list it as source.

Re: not seeing all optical drives
thanks for the reply ---
Not sure how windows see the drive, but the device manager lists it as a dvd drive --
I put in a data dvd and was able to see and copy files from it to the local drive
Thanks for the hp/forum link but it did not seem to point to a solution

Re: not seeing all optical drives
Thi is totaly confusing ---- It seems that makemkv (so far) is the only application that can't "see" this external dvd

Is there a way to debug why this is the case?
This is the msinfo32 info --- is there any other place to check? Thanks
