0 titles saved, 1 failed

#1 Post by sylfaron » Fri Apr 02, 2021 5:07 pm

Hi there! I'm using MakeMKV v1.16.3 win(x64-release), trying to rip a Bluray shipped from Japan (so returns are not really possible). Only certain titles are unable to rip (in this case, only 2 of the titles on this disk give me this error, the other ones can be ripped without issue). The disk is brand new and I've already tried cleaning it. The drive I'm using is a USB-powered Buffalo BRXL-PT6U2V-BKD - I'm guessing it's the drive's problem since the disk plays fine on a Bluray player but just doesn't work when ripping.

Log is attached - getting a new drive is a last resort so any advice would be appreciated! Thank you.

Code: Select all

002003:0000 Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:INVALID FIELD IN CDB' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00008.m2ts' at offset '4776456192'
001003:0020 DEBUG: Code 3221225488 at HFuPt/Gy+]n6ub.|sx^Z;r\.:121262371
001003:0020 DEBUG: Code 3221225488 at X&V]3t|hc:kU8"c#:213130559
002003:0000 Error 'OS error - The specified request is not a valid operation for the target device' occurred while reading '\Device\CdRom0' at offset '4776456192'
This is usually caused by a read error on the disk. How did you clean it?

I used a microfiber cloth on the surface of the disk.

Try it with either some light dish soap or even lens cleaning solution. A large number of disks nowadays are packaged in ways that transfer almost, but not quite, invisible chemicals on to the surface. Dry wiping rarely does much to remove it.

It may look clean to you, but you're not a laser trying to focus on microscopic pits through it.

Hi Woodstock, thank you for the tip! I went ahead and gave it a clean using lens cleaner and tried the rip again, the same title failed. It seems to fail around the same area, about 60-65% in the progress bar. This time I also plugged the USB power cord to a 2.4A charging port instead of directly to the laptop.

Log is attached here - thank you in advance for any advice! I'm starting to suspect it really is the drive's problem as I tried another Bluray disk and this time it couldn't even be read by MakeMKV. I've only had this drive for about 2 years and it worked perfectly at the start, now it almost always gives error messages for reading/ripping Blurays.
