Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
For the guys with the minix, leave a comment here if you are interested in having Dolby vision in CoreELEC.

I thought Quietvoid said this wasn’t possible in Linux?Big-rome wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 6:37 pmFor the guys with the minix, leave a comment here if you are interested in having Dolby vision in CoreELEC.

It’s possible now if someone built a 32 bit version of CoreELEC. The devs would rather a 64 bit Dolby Vision kernel module.DaMacFunkin wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 6:41 pmI thought Quietvoid said this wasn’t possible in Linux?Big-rome wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 6:37 pmFor the guys with the minix, leave a comment here if you are interested in having Dolby vision in CoreELEC.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Right, it's only possible because the SoC manufacturer has provided the proprietary kernel info for these new chips.
There are older open sourced versions on Github, but I assume these devices run on Linux 4.9+ now.

It would be amazing to have DV in CoreELEC, especially as the Minix is one of very few devices that can do full enhancement layer. I imagine some tweaks would have to be made to allow it to read DV mkvs, could this be ported from the Android DV Kodi build?

I tested those files on my LG OLED B7P (I know, quite old model).shawnc22 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 8:29 pmCan you give this sample from saving private ryan a try and see if you notice any flickering throughout?

- Ryan DV SL 05.06.mp4 triggered DV, but was flickering
- Ryan DV DL 07.06.mp4 triggered DV as well, but was flicker free.
What does that mean? What are those files, exactly?
I'm sorry if it's a dumb question, but at 300+ pages it's kind of difficult to keep up. Thanks in advance.

64 bit DV library is unlikely since Amlogic only have a 32 bit SDK, Dolby only provide them 32 bit library. I got this info from UgoosBig-rome wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 6:44 pmIt’s possible now if someone built a 32 bit version of CoreELEC. Wow, this Minix option is exciting, especially if we could get away from Android, with maybe a CoreELEC option. I guess that I'm going to have to add to my media box collection! Anybody know if this could be made to work on a Vero+?

When you run through mkvtoolnix, are you just demuxing and remuxing, as is, or are you making any changes?mattmarsden wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 2:13 pmI've also found that running the DV mkv through mkvtoolnix after being created in MakeMKV makes it perform in terms of stuttering in Kodi.

Then our option is to find someone interested in porting CoreELEC to 32 bit.bedders wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 8:08 pm64 bit DV library is unlikely since Amlogic only have a 32 bit SDK, Dolby only provide them 32 bit library. If the vero uses the 4.9 vendor kernel.captainbrent wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 8:36 pmWow, this Minix option is exciting, especially if we could get away from Android, with maybe a CoreELEC option. Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
how do you activate auto-frame rate match in KODI ? i found the setting on plex and it works but it doesn't match the frame rate on Kodi.... sorry for the noob question, I'm not used to those android apps/device, I'm an HTPC guy.
SDR colors are off (tested both kodi and plex.. both the same): https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/12058
I tried many different settings but it looks like HDR10 is always sent in 8bit on this device. (tested plex and kodi, both the same)
resulting in incorrect colors: https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/12059

going to compare DV with my x700 now but I'm no more optimistic...

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I just tried the tsmuxer-to-BDMV method on my Sony X700 with Spiderman Homecoming, and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that the forced subs came on in the sandwich shop scene at around 15mins. Forced subs don't work via the m2ts method as far as I know.magnetoeric wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 5:18 pmGreat to hear that x700 plays DV from the bd structureI had S6700 which also supported bd structure, but the screen used to freeze for few seconds while forwarding/rewinding. Does this mean it's better to go for sony? Unfortunately i can't purchase ugoos or minix at my place.
