Same here, your DV P8 test file shows better than HDR10.
Did you see compression artifacts in the DV FEL version in Chromecast? It looks like the P8 file or how?
And, what about the fact that I can't see any compression artifacts in the Dolby Vision FEL mkv I made? It could be yor setup?

I'm trying to get the Power Rangers, 2017 film, if I finnally can test it I'll tell (it could be possible you'll make some test files with the credits?)
Effectively some DV files (P7 and P8) have problems with time seeking, they can only play from begining and only accepts pause and resume. It will be a matter of letting it play and setting an alarm when it's ending and reaches the credits.
I don't own a Chromecast, I only have the Atomos shogun capture(from manix) of the Chromecast playing total recall FEL. Clearly, manix messed up the colors but unless he used a p8 file by mistake(unlikely), it shows that FEL is not processed.

Maybe the small samples break something in FEL because in motion I still see some artifacts on the x700 with the samples, definitely not free of compression artifacts.. I will try the complete movie tonight.

funny fact: even the low bitrate stream on VUDU is better than the bluray remux HDR10 base layer

On another topic myself & @reset9999
I Had a bet:
I think I won lol,
P5 is the same as using p7 fel
Even doe the itcp is different seem like in the final encoding process the 12/16bit rgb tif DV meta is transferred to the p5 as well ending credits for power rangers on VUDU is bright white as well.
So would also mean the p5 uses the fel prior to encoding to p5 which is meta from the xml
So p5 is also better than regular hdr10.
Also means p5 is not just hdr10 with Rpu

I always found it strange that the white of the end credits was encoded in the FEL, I can’t see what the need was or why the encoder would choose to do that. It does seem that for a lot of movies the FEL is required for a decent presentation.

I presume if you were to watch the VUDU version in HDR10 the credits would be bright white also.

Checking that now
Yes it bright white in hdr10 too
Weird
Also the playback device is the shield tv
So streaming hdr10
Is different from uhd hdr10 as well.

Nothing surprising here, profile 5 has always been the superior option because IPT is more accurate for mapping than YCbCr.
Profile 7 was just a stop-gap for UHD BD AFAIK. It's also considered the "legacy" format now.

Although P5 can’t do 12bit or 10,000nits.

markswift over at the avsforums has also created some great test files for testing FEL/RPU implementation:

why not? there are a couple of HDR10 movies on streaming services that have maxcll of 10 000nits.
why would it be different in p5 DV ?

HDR10 is max 4000 nits

https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/hdr10-vs-dolby-vision
not true. HDR10 is max 10 000nits

spears and munsil:
Maximum Content Light Level : 10000 cd/m2
Maximum Frame-Average Light Level : 1676 cd/m2

Mad max (one of the first HDR movie):

Maximum Content Light Level : 9918 cd/m2
Maximum Frame-Average Light Level : 3241 cd/m2

there are also a lot of movies with maxcll higher than the mastering display luminance. (maxcll is not always accurate though).
there is also Blade runner 2049 that was mastered on a 10k nits monitor but only have a maxcll of 181 nits

mmm... I just got my Ugoos and very bad news: there's no 23.976 mode, only 24hz.
99% of movies are 23.976, so this device is useless. I hope I can return it...

FYI, playing 23.976 content in 24hz = dropped/repeated frames every 42seconds.

Trying 1 last time
Set timer came back tv was off lol
Strange thing doe if I force LLDV from the device it plays the whole movie but NO fel
Trying when it triggers naturally is the issuse .
But I’ll keep trying seeing that the ugoos is no go.
Sonyx700 or streaming platform still the best option for fel movies.
