What does the flashing guide say?
And "burning 4K" is going to suffer if you flash the drives - reliably writing Bluray and BDXL disks tends to suffer. Somewhat ironically, the drives people find most reliable for WRITING BDXL are Pioneer drives, which aren't compatible with ripping 4K disks.

Re: Can I flash LG WH14NS40 1.05 directly to Re LG BH16NS40 1.03
The LG drives only burn single layer BDs (25GB) OK. If you burn double layer discs (50GB) you will have read errors at the layer break. You will need a Pioneer drive and slow down burn speed to 4x, better 2x, for results without errors around the layer break.

I also want to Rip 4K movies/media for archive
Re: Can I flash LG WH14NS40 1.05 directly to Re LG BH16NS40 1.03
Why does it say "BDXL™ Support" then if it doesn't even burn properly?
Re: Can I flash LG WH14NS40 1.05 directly to Re LG BH16NS40 1.03
Just to make sure, when you say "burn 4k", you are referring to creating new 4K disks and writing them to a blank disk, correct?
A lot of people think "ripping" is "burning", when they are the opposite actions. "Ripping" is pulling data off the disk, "burning" is writing data to a blank disk.
If you wish to do both reliably, separate drives is the way to go..

Re: Can I flash LG WH14NS40 1.05 directly to Re LG BH16NS40 1.03
I want to be able to do both, but at this point I may just settle with creating new 4K Blu rays (burning) which I don't believe requires flashing (if that feature even works at all).
Re: Can I flash LG WH14NS40 1.05 directly to Re LG BH16NS40 1.03
No. You need to flash the LG compatible drives for ripping. This is a must.
If you want to burn the rips reliably you also need a Pioneer drive later on.

So is this drive not good enough to create my own 4K (media) discs? Example: 4K fan edits
