Asus BW-16D1HT NOt reading Bluray or UHD Discs

Post by strubdog » Thu Feb 11, 2021 4:00 am

A day ago, my Asus BW-16D1HT stopped reading Blurays and UHD discs but does read DVD's. My drive is plugged into an external drive bay. This is wall powered and plugs in via USB. Disc won't show in windows explorer.

I have tried a number of methods to fix this:
1. I have uninstalled the drive and reinstalled it.
2. I have turned the power off for 10+ seconds.
3. I have done step 2 but also shut down my pc.
4. I have updated the firmware from 3.01 to 3.02.

Thanks

If the recommendation is to try a new drive. What is the common consensus for Internal/External drives that are capable of reading UHD discs? I bought the Asus drive about 2 years ago. Just checking to see if any changed from the list that is posted.

Thanks

I'm looking at the Archon External UHD drive:

Is this what you recommend or do you suggest a different drive?
I need an external drive (or internal with enclosure), my PC doesn't have a 5.25" drive bay.

Thanks

Probably your drive is NOT broken.
I have the same drive and noticed that after the latest Microsoft security updates (.Net and Windows 10) earlier this week the drive stopped working. I uninstalled both these updates and the drive resumes reading my Blu-Rays.
I have not yet installed only one of them, will try that this weekend, but I don't want to trash my perfectly good drive because of some Windows bug.

Hope this applies to you as well.
